Bring back Carol Burnett!!

That's almost inconceivable to me.

IMO, there aren't actors these days experienced in sketch comedy. Producers over the past several years have not nurtured character actors and they've been neglected. I think some of the British sitcoms are so popular in the US ("Are You Being Served" "Keeping Up Appearances" "Absolutely Fabulous") because people miss seeing true character acting.

Still underappreciated as an actress; let's hope her strong dramatic turn on "Law and Order" this spring gets her an Emmy award.

it's money, honey, and a right issue on 1967-72 seasons. it would cost a fortune for all the music clearances and i guess no one, not even CBS, is interested. you can only get about 50 episodes on DVDs.

I miss the physical comedy of shows from years ago. All comedy today is based on jokes and never physical comedy.

Who can forget Lucy & Ethel making chocolates? Or Lucy grape stomping?

Carol Burnett had some very funny physical stunts as well. One that still sticks in my mind was when she was playing an English girl cheering up soldiers in a hospital. She pulls out a small accordian and beings to sing. She gets her bosom stuck in the accordian and of course does her funny cross-eyed face. And of course Tim Conway was a master at the physical.

My favorite show growing up...the skits were the highlight, but also the musical numbers, the choreography, the sets and costumes...nothing compared.

Reg, perhaps you're thinking of this episode. L & S were trying to make money to go to a fancy dinner party...they decided to follow Lenny and Squiggy's advice and sign up for lab testing. Laverne was denied sleep and Shirley was denied food. When they finally got to the party, Laverne couldnt stay awake and Shirley couldnt get to the food because she had to hold up Laverne. Finally someone dropped a cracker and she jumped on it...leaving Laverne in a chair where she eventually tumbled out of it, asleep. Amazing, amazing amazing. It was Shirley getting up off the floor and fixing her hat just before Laverne rolled through the crowd.

Another ep. was when Shirley was teaching Laverne to drive...using their apartment. Shirley's reaction to Laverne "running over" boo boo kitty...amazing again.

Penny was always known as a great physical comedienne, but I think Cindy was even better.

Back on topic (sorry for the L&S detour): my favorites were always the movie spoofs: "Went with the Wind," of course, but also "Rebecky" and "National Velvet" and one with Paul Sand, where Harvey was a Laurence Olivier-like werewolf and Vicky an old gypsy woman. Pure genius.

One of the great pleasures of the show was watching Vicky grow in skill over the years (culminating, perhaps, in the outtake where Mama cracks Eunice up by asking "Is it your time of the month, or something? . . . Are you riding the cotton pony?")
