BroadwayWorld "App"

EDIT: I have changed the title of the thread to be a general "BroadwayWorld App" discussion as it seems (like it could be) beneficial to have one.

---------------

I guess this would be for the off topic board?

My laptop is getting old and has really started to slow down, so I finally got an iPad to use for web browsing and all other everyday things...I downloaded the BroadwayWorld App (which, recently, has not be loading after I sign in on my iPhone) and found that on the iPad, it only comes up in portrait mode. It fills up the whole screen, so it clearly is intended for iPad use as well, but is there a reason it cannot be calibrated to landscape mode? Is there no BroadwayWorld App optimized for the iPad? I have an iPad case that acts as an easel, and I mainly use it in landscape mode, so going onto BroadwayWorld is rather frustrating!

Sorry if this has been discussed before; I couldn't find any information on it.

I could not sign in on my iphone app just a little while ago, I was about to start a thread.

I've never been able to go to landscape in the ap. Rather annoying.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I have not been able to sign into the app for about a week now… Maybe more. I have however signed in on my Safari app… Which is where I'm posting this now.
Words don't deserve that kind of malarkey. They're innocent, neutral, precise, standing for this, describing that, meaning the other, so if you look after them you can build bridges across incomprehension and chaos. But when they get their corners knocked off, they're no good anymore…I don't think writers are sacred, but words are. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones in the right order, you can nudge the world a little.

Not to get overly picky, but why can't we stay logged in on the app? On safari, I am able stay logged in.

These all seem like simple tweaks/bug fixes (then again, I know nothing about programming.)

I don't use the app. I just access BWW from Safari on my iPad. It's fine when it is on landscape view.

Is there really any benefit to the app aside from view?

I'm wondering if staying logged in on Safari on the iPad is why we can't log in on the app? No idea why the iPhone app won't let me log in.

I believe I was unable to log in on the app before I had Safari remember my log in, though there's a chance I have misremembered that. I don't think I had ever used Safari on my iPhone to access BWW, having had the app the whole time.

Same, I've had trouble with the App since first downloading it. It seems that part of the app is to reset itself every time it opens, which is frustrating and unnecessary.

Millie, unfortunately, not really. The app has potential to be great, it's just terribly un-user friendly. I'm actually posting this from Safari (on my phone) right now. The only reason I started this thread is because if the app was more user friendly, I'd be on BWW a lot more. For me, it has gotten to the point where, although sad, if there's no "app for that," I really don't use "it" whether it be a search engine or social media site.

I just use Chrome on my iPhone and iPad to check BWW. It keeps me signed in, it's easier to zoom & read small text on the boards and it doesn't crash. I wish the app was more user-friendly, as well.

I just gave up on the app a long time ago. Having to sign in every time with a stupid email that I used 8 years ago was just annoying.
Pretty pretty please don't you ever ever feel like you're less than f**ckin' perfect!

I'm so glad to come across this thread. Here in the office, there's been an on-going debate all week about converting a desktop app to either a native iPod app or web-based one that will run in any micro-browser. I haven't used the bww app but I've grown sick of having to download other apps to my Windows 8 phone. It's simpler for me to enter a site's url in the browser address bar. Plus I stay logged in that way.

It just depends on the circumstances, javero. For a site like BWW, an app is not necessary. But a company that provides a service and retains most of their business via online/web, it makes a lot of sense. BWW offers the message board and news and media features, but they do not have "clients" in the same way other companies do.

ETA: The department heads at Disney Television used to have similar arguments when I was there. Many felt that because they were more of an aggregate company 'feeding the masses,' rather than interacting on a more direct person-to-person level, special programming for web only was unnecessary. Granted, that was the late 1990s. They had to eventually adapt with the times and embrace it, developing apps and web series specifically for TV Only programming.

I have to sign in every time I use the iPhone app, too. Then it always takes me to my mailbox by default with a message saying "You have no new messages."

I have to exit out of that to get to the message boards. And the boards aren't very mobile-friendly. It's basically just the website version of the boards scaled proportionally to fit the screen, so the font is microscopic. And if you zoom into it, the text doesn't wrap properly. You have to scroll all around (vertically and horizontally) to read or write anything.

I very rarely use it because of those reasons. Just not very user-friendly.

I use the app when it works, but when I want to post on my iPod, I use Safari. I'd really prefer to use the app over Safari, simply because I usually have too many tabs open at once and I would like to be able to only use the app. It has so much potential.

The sign in feature on the app seems to be working again.

I have a nook tablet with an n2a card. Got the app but prefer to use the browser to access the site. Still problems with video.
