Two more reasons I'm no longer recording/watching this on my DVR. They bring in the annoying Colby and Dixie and get rid of David and Brooke. I remember way back when Brooke first came to Pine Valley with Benny. She was a rebel and gave poor Aunt Phoebe a rough time.
Watch "Passions" instead. It's much more entertaining than "AMC" these days.
BROOKE BAILS OUT OF 'CHILDREN'
By MICHAEL STARR
October 31, 2006 -- 'ALL My Children" is losing one of its oldest daughters.
Julia Barr, who's played Brooke English for 30 years, said yesterday she's leaving the ABC soap - after declining an offer to become a recurring character.
She also took a none-too-subtle jab at "AMC" in a statement she released to the press.
"I am so proud to have been a part of a show that was once a television icon," she said.
"I want the fans to know how much I truly appreciate all of their love, support, loyalty and enthusiasm over the years."
Barr will leave "AMC" in December when her contract expires. Her episodes could air through January (depending on her shooting schedule).
Rumors of Barr's departure have been circulating for months.
While she's one of the show's longest-tenured actors - along with original cast member Susan Lucci and David Canary - her character, Brooke, hasn't had a lead storyline in some time and has seen her screen time diminish.
Barr's departure is the latest eruption on "AMC."
Fan favorite Vince Irizarry, who played Dr. David Hayward for nine years, left a few weeks back (his episodes are still airing) to return to CBS' "Guiding Light."

Posted: 10/31/06 at 7:44amThat's too bad about Brooke. I was never big on David, though. His line readings always sounded the same to me. Plus, he reminds me of a not quite as hot version of Vincent Spano.

Brooke (aka Julia) has done this exact same thing before!
20 years ago. I guess none of you would remember that.
She quit the show cold and walked away... and they even hired a new Brooke a year or so later to wander in to Pine Valley. It didn't work.
And eventually, Julia came back in the part.
Maybe she quits the show, every other decade... just like clockwork.
Will history repeat itself?

Perhaps this will open the door for her to get some roles worthy of her immense talent that will actually be seen by someone other than soap fans.
Thirty years is a great run, best of luck to her.

Posted: 10/31/06 at 10:01amVery interesting news! It has been long time since Brooke's been in the forefront with a story line-she hardly makes a cameo these days. The trend on AMC for years now has been to flood the show with young hot characters. I guess ABC has their reasons for trying to attract a younger demographic but the reasons escape me. Isn't the same age group who watches daytime tv the same as it always has been? Aren't, or should I say, shouldn't the young be in school?

Posted: 10/31/06 at 12:32pmIt's like CBS Radio running away from the oldies format. They had top rated stations in NY and SF and then they changed the formats, without notice, and the ratings have never been the same. Still, they continue to go after people who don't listen to the radio (younger demo) while saying they don't care about their older listeners, the people who actually listened to their stations. AMC seems to be doing the same thing. Adding Colby, (a baby when her mother kidnapped her a couple of years ago) as a "Paris Hilton" type clone was one of their recent moves. Bringing Dixie back from the dead and returning the Tad/Dixie story for the millionth time was another. Other younger long lost or never known about brothers and nieces have turned up lately. All of them dull as dishwater. Many of the soaps, including AMC and "Passions" have had their budgets slashed and cast and crew downsized. In the case of AMC, they are eliminating major players such as David, Brooke and Tonya Pinkins. Time will tell if AMC can lure the demo they want or end up being dumped like "Another World", "Port Charles", "Loving", "Ryans Hope", "Santa Barbara", "Dark Shadows", "Search For Tomorrow", "Love Is A Many Splendored Thing"....

i guess i'm the only one that's glad she's leaving. i'm a fan of Erica Kane and Brooke always had to rain on her parade. it just got old to me.
i do like the younger generation being brought in, as long as they keep them around. if they are just going to shift them off to "California" or whatnot in 10 years, then don't bother. they need someone who will be in it for the long haul.

Just take a look at the actors they've taken off-contract or plain fired in the past year or so:
Vincent Irizarry
Julia Barr
Terri Ivens
Tonya Pinkins
Jill Larson
Michael B Jordan
James Scott
John Callahan
Natalia Cigliuti
Christian Campbell
It's a disgrace, and the ratings show for it. Yet it continues.
I say brava to Julia for getting off this sinking ship.
