"Any person, whether President or not, can have the right in this country to believe whatever he wants"
I agree with you on this. You are very true in your statement. But it is getting to the point where it is Christian vs. Non-Christian instead of seeing what is right and wrong with a way a person would run a country. Poll after poll after poll has said that people are completely against this war that Bush got us into, but because he is a Christian (or professing one) they voted for him anyway. That is just not right.

Posted: 2/3/05 at 12:42amYou know, Chicago....to be honest, I am neither democrat nor republican. Liberals would probably think I am Conservative while Conservatives would probably think I was liberal. I just form an opinion of my own instead of what others try to make me believe.

"Kerry believed that babies should be killed and that men and woman should marry their own sexes".
This is why extremists piss me off.
#1 - Kerry did not believe that babies should be killed! There are certain incidents where a woman, whether young or old cannot bare a child, whether it be rape, incest, or internal difficulties. Kerry is a supporter of women having the right to not have a child under these circumstances.
#2 It's not about men and women marrying their own sexes. It is about Equal rights. I should have every right to marry the man I love without someone who has no clue dictate what is right or wrong for me.
And about him succeeding, I wasn't aware that you HAD to pray to God to get ahead in life. Hmmm...I wonder why Marilyn Manson is so succesful...

Conservatives should practice what they preach! All we heard from them was negative B.S. while Clinton was in office.
#54re: Bush's State of the Union
Posted: 2/3/05 at 12:48amThe tone of hate while Clinton was in office was nowhere close to how rabid the liberals are today.
#55re: Bush's State of the Union
Posted: 2/3/05 at 12:50amAnd of course there is going to be a tone of hate when I feel my rights are taken away. I guess that is why Clinton was the better president. He wasn't invading on Conservatives rights!
#56re: Bush's State of the Union
Posted: 2/3/05 at 12:51amWell, to be honest (and I am not choosing sides when I say this).....the world wasn't what it is now when Clinton was in office. We didn't have a war, topic of gay marriage, etc. wasn't the main focus, and it was better time economical wise, etc. Now, if the tables were reversed and Clinton was President now, could you honestly say that conservatives wouldb't be having a field day?

Okay, first of all, do you really think God has nothing better to do than get people into positions of power?
"Kerry believed that babies should be killed and that men and woman should marry their own sexes, but nobody was complaining about that when it might've become a law if he were President."
And what is the big deal with same-sex marriages, I ask you? If two people are in love, why deny them what should be a basic human right? Doesn't the Constitution (which is what this country was founded on, not the Bible, as so many people seem to believe) say something about the right to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness"?
And neither Kerry nor other Democrats (including myself) think babies SHOULD be killed. Nobody is going to hunt down every pregnant woman in America and foist abortions on them, or drive vans through our neighborhoods yanking women out of their homes and giving them abortions against their wills. I honestly don't know what I would do if I found myself pregnant and alone, with little financial support. But I do believe that the option should be there for those who wish to use it. And besides, if it were to be illegal again, that doesn't mean that people won't still get them. They'll just get them in filthy, unlicensed back-alley places. Abortion has been around for a long time, but it has only been legal in the last thirty years. And if it is ever outlawed, it will still exist.

Posted: 2/3/05 at 12:53amToo be honest, I am mad at certain things the President is doing but I am not in total hatred for him as many others on this board. But, if he does what has been rumored then I will be more than pissed off. <--that is in regards to the getting rid of gay themes in theatre and literature.

Now...this is rumor, right?
I hope he realises that if he does that, there's going to be a retalliation WORSE than the Stonewall incident.
And Chicago...I would have voted for Liddy Dole. SHE would have made a better president.

"I wanted to just say something and leave it all alone, but this I must correct: Bush hypocritical on the death penalty? Have ya read the Bible? {Genesis 9:6} God commanded the death penalty for anyone who murdered another person."
And what happened to the separation between the church and state? No one's disputing everyone's right to freedom of religion, but certainly that would mean that no one, including the president, can impose his religious views on a man and a man, or a woman and a woman, who are in a committed relationship.

this is kind of off topic, yet kinda not. While I was at college (a Christian college), I got into an argument with a group of people because they kept saying, "We need to go back to our roots where the country was founded on Christian beliefs and our Christian forefathers blah blah blah" (Paraphrasing of course. :)) I got fed up and said, "Well, you know the founding fathers were actually Diests, not Christians. Yes, a lot of what they believed, Christians believed as well but Diests believe that Jesus wasn't necessarily the son of God." You would have thought I murdered someone because I got bombarded with "HOW DARE YOU SAY THAT. YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF." Ok, these comments were coming from Religion majors. At the time, I was a History major. Infact, I just learned about Diesm a couple weeks before this incident. Anyway, I got mad and walked off.
Ok, back on topic.

Funny to hear people whining about their "rights" being taken away. I haven't lost any. If you're not a criminal or terrorist, I don't think you really have any worries! I'm much more concerned about my "rights" being taken away at the local level of government in the form of permits, etc. that you need to do anything to your property.
And Clinton screwed an intern and the country. Thank God we have someone cleaning it up now.
#64re: Bush's State of the Union
Posted: 2/3/05 at 12:59amAnd Chicago: You know where all this "liberal hate" comes from? From the actions of people who always stand on their high horses about how they're always right and everyone else is completely wrong. When the nation eventually sways to a more liberal viwepoint, I bet you'll be in the same boat as so many liberal people are in now.

Chicago - Are you gay?
Because my right to marry is taken away...and soon, if he keeps it up, my right to have a child will be taken away.
#67re: Bush's State of the Union
Posted: 2/3/05 at 1:01amWell, sure you haven't lost any of your rights, CBF. You're a straight white male! Is marriage not a right? Is protection and discretion over your body not a right? And I'm sure there's a bunch of gays and women who are neither criminals nor terrorists!

Chicago: So you know what it's like, then. Can you understand why I'm so pissed off?
And CLINTON screwed the country? I seem to recall the nation was in better financial shape then than it is now.

"Funny to hear people whining about their "rights" being taken away. I haven't lost any. If you're not a criminal or terrorist, I don't think you really have any worries!"
Well, I am glad that your rights haven't been taken away....or has it. Do you know that the government has access to library files to see what books you check out and if you check out anything "suspicious" you could be arrested. Hmmmm.......the right to privacy has just been taken away. Also, you are not gay or a woman (or I don't think so).....neither am I but you have to think of those people. Not just you.
#71re: Bush's State of the Union
Posted: 2/3/05 at 1:03am
And you, my dear, have "assumed" and made an "ass" of yourself, because I'm a FEMALE.
But good of you to attack my person instead of refuting my arguments.

Posted: 2/3/05 at 1:04amWhy in the hell would I care if government spies on what books I check out of a library? lol how ridiculous to worry about such foolishness. Once again, if you're not a terrorist, checking a book out probably won't get you thrown into the slammer for life.
#73re: Bush's State of the Union
Posted: 2/3/05 at 1:06amBut the fact of them doing it is what is wrong. It COMPLETELY goes against the constitution (ya know, that thing that seperates us from other countries that we are supposed to follow)
#74re: Bush's State of the Union
Posted: 2/3/05 at 1:07amThere are many gay repubs out there who don't care about the "marriage" thing. I'm with someone who doesn't care either. But I Care. I will never have the benefits that straight people have. When I die, I will not be able to pass my most valuable things to my lover. You may not relate, as do most of the Conservatives, and this is why we are disregarded as human beings.
