OH! and did you all see the special thing of VH1 today? *sighhhh* I love the team of Tim Burton and Johnny Depp.
Liz, I love how we are on opposite sides of the country, and still do the same things at the same time of day. I totally watched that on VH1 today. I LOVE YOU!!!

I'm seeing it tomorrow at 10 AM, before the local theatre opens to the public. Rock. On. I'm so excited.
Is this that chocolate thing? It looks horrible to me. Why the excitement?
I want to go but I hate seeing movies with a bunch of kids. Maybe I'll go to the late show.

Because I'm not you?
I'm one of the people who think this movie looks like crap. And this is someone who loves EVERYTHING Tim Burton has ever touched. It's not because I don't think it could compare with the original, if done right I'm sure it could, but this doesn't look like it's done right AT ALL.
I have no point of comparison, as I've never seen the original film. But, I find it difficult to sit through the trailer. Can't imagine why anyone would want to see it, and haven't read anything here that explains why anyone would want to see it.
My favorite line(s):
Willy Wonka: This is a stick of the most amazing and most sensational gum in the WHOLE UNIVERSE!
Also...
Violet: Mr. Wonka, I'm Violet Beauregarde.
Willy: Oh... I don't care.
Is this that chocolate thing?
CM2, that is classic! (and I agree with you - Depp scares me in this one!)
The way Depp looks in this role he could easily be mistaken for Michael Jackson. Perhaps this is commentary on how creepy MJ come across. A man who lives alone except for some very small creepy man things inviting children to stay with him..hmmm
Why would I see it? It's an adaptation of a great book by one of my favorite directors who's also working with the screenwriter of his last movie that I also really liked.
And it has horrible children in it being punished for being horrible.
You mileage, of course, may vary.
I do think it's cool that one guy plays all the Oompa-Loompas, and the Chocolate Room looks very cool, but I don't know if I can stomach watching Johnny the whole time (and I enjoy him and like most everything he's ever done, but this just looks a little too creepy).
I'm seeing a screening tonight. I shall write a review tomorrow, should the muse of criticism strike!

Rotten Tomatoes has it at 88% Fresh (and 100% Fresh among the major critics). That's VERY high. I'm going tomorrow.

Jeez, Margo, if you're going, I may just have to re-evaluate my position!

Margo, I love you to death...but part of me would love to see you jump off a bridge just to see who might follow.
