Well, my impression since I first saw some pictures has changed, now that I have seen this trailer.
It has potential. The next trailer should be able to tell me if its worth seeing or not. Til then, I cherise the original.
Gene Wilder -vs- Johnny Depp. Hmmm...
Wow, that's a little frightening...
I didn't think it was possible, but this looks even creepier than the original.
At the risk of being flayed alive, I have to say that I'm not a fan of the original. It scared the hell out of me when I was a kid.
That said...there is a very good chance that I'm going to see this one. Here's why: A (Johnny Depp and Freddie Highmore)+ B (Tim Burton)= C (Squee!)
Looks to be a fun movie with some amazing vignettes, like the original. But I don't think it has much of a chance of being replayed on television for decades like the Gene Wilder version. It's just clear from the trailer that this is version is nowhere near as lyrical as the original (even with its Oompa Loompa songs).
This reminds me of the same type of humour as the recent CAT IN THE HAT with Mike Myers.
We'll see.
Wow. That has got to be one of the freakiest things I have seen in my life........I must see it!
wtf? thats what i said after i watched it. but ill be going to see it.
TO me it does not look like it is going to live up to the original. I love Johnny and Tim Burton but come on. How can you remake a classic?
I didn't know the original was freaky....nothing will be better than it though!
The original is such a dirty little movie. A ferry ride that features images of animals being slaughtered, and a train that cums? I can't get enough of it.

Johnny Depp needs a goatee or something. He looks freaky.

His hair is freaky!
That tunnel scene always scared the crap out of me as a kid. I hope there's something equally as scary in this one.
I always felt a disconnect with the fear factor of the film because I didn't see it until about 1990, by which time the technicolor already made me removed from it on that level. I was too busy having nightmares about Freddie Krueger attacking Johnny Depp anyway. Updated On: 12/9/04 at 08:09 PM
I don't see why it's such a stretch for people. Gene Wilder looks like a child molester in that movie anyway... I mean the way he looks at charile at the end... "it's yours charlie, it's all yours..." that always freaked me out... and anytime I say someone looks like a child molester my mom always yells at me saying "how can someone LOOK like a child molester???" and I say "Gene Wilder. Willy Wonka. Need I say more?"...
I loved the trailer. I'll definitely go see this one. Johnny Depp/Tim Burton/Danny Elfman...my kind of creative team.
Does anyone know if the kid playing Charlie is the same actor who played Peter in Finding Neverland? I just saw that movie this afternoon. If you haven't seen it...I highly recommend it.

Wow, that is incredibly creepy.
Is it just me, or is Johnny Depp actually looking for roles in which he can act flambouyantly? Not that that's a bad thing, he's turned in some GREAT performances. Maybe he's trying to tell us something... lol
I think it looks adorable.
Yes, that is Freddie Highmore who was "Peter" in FINDING NEVERLAND.
Depp liked him so much, he got him to audition for CHARLIE.
Wow...now I really can't wait to see it. I don't think it looks really creepy...a little psychadelic maybe...but not creepy.
thanks for the info capnhook...Freddie Highmore is wonderful as Peter.

That trailer makes the movie look awful.
That was probably the worst news I've gotten all night. This was supposed to be a horror flick, not a kiddie flick.

Since when does Willy Wonka look like a Bond Girl reject? Depp looks more like he's doing a production of The Boy Friend.
I will be having nightmares for weeks now. oh johnny. what happened to your hair?

Did anyone mention his teeth? His teeth are absolutely TERRIFYING!
I mean...I'm pretty sure one of the oompa loompas sang "willy wonka willy wonka his teeth are super sparkly"
TERRIFYINGLY WHITE! AAAAH!
(for those people who watch Friends, it reminds of when Ross left the whitening strips on too long for his date and they glowed in the black light)
...Johnny + Willy Wonka = SCARY! I can't wait!
