jerby - we finally agree!
uncageg - thats how i feel as well. in no way do i think pastor wright is going about this the "right" way (no pun intended. ha)... as a matter of fact i think the way he's presenting his messages is more harmful to his cause than anything... but... there is a reason he is speaking out the way he is.
there is a reason a large portion of the african american community feels the same way... we have to remember that not too long ago, literally during our parents' lifetime, african americans were still fighting for rights. then consider the fact that we're still living in a very racist country and i'm sure we cant even begin to scratch the surface of why he feels the way he does.
i guess its hard for someone who's not african american to understand... but theres obvious hurt and pain and anger there. and with reason, i think.
i was speaking with my mother in law last night, a hardcore republican who is easily fooled by those "awesome" obama spam emails that are spreading around the net like wildfire... you know the ones where he's a terrorist ready to destroy the usa "from the inside out" and how if you run his birthday thru the bible it actually confirms that he's the antichrist... anyhow... she said:
"if george bush had a pastor that preached out against blacks in america the way pastor wright preached out against whites in america, he would have never lasted in the race and would have never had a shot at the presidency".
my first reaction was "what a shame... if only his pastor had spoken out against blacks during his run for the white house we could have avoided these last 8 years"
my second reaction was "uh... last i checked, white people were not enslaved by blacks for more than 200 years... so... what the hell are you saying? its just a tad different"
