Campaign aides say he's making the announcement at 1:00pm in New Orleans.

I knew he didn't stand a chance. But he would have had my vote.

It's about time.
Now maybe he can fill the void left by Mother Theresa.
Thats too bad - he brought an important voice to the primary.
Personally I think it was the press that has made it impossible for him to be a viable candidate . They only focused on Obama and Clinton. The press has taken a far too important role in this election.

He got more coverage than some of the others. He was just on Letterman which is pretty huge.
Its really a shame. He should have atleast stayed in til super tuesday to see if he would have had any say come convention time, cause that would have been interesting.
I agree with Marc, the press has sacrificed the story for sensationalized Details-At-Eleven watch-me headlines and sound bytes. Edwards was written off in favor a juicier Clinton/Obama
smackdown.
So, does this benefit Clinton or Obama?
Depends on whether he decides to be a kingmaker or a queenmaker.
" The former North Carolina senator will not immediately endorse either candidate in what is now a two-person race for the Democratic nomination, said one adviser, who spoke on a condition of anonymity in advance of the announcement."
John Edwards to Quit Presidential Race
I think it'll depend on what each camp offers him--does he want to be a VP or an AG....

Loved Edwards and would liked to have heard more from him. I wish him the best.
He may have been on Letterman, but the mainstream news media has virtually ignored him since Iowa, slobbering over the two way fight they themselves helped create. I expected more of CNN, but they're a big corporation and no doubt against Edwards' populist and anti-big business message. I'm disappointed he didn't stay in through Tuesday, but I assume he has his reasons.
Totally, I don't think any news agency wishes to promote a guy who plans to diminish their influence.
I think we all suffer when all candidates don't get equal time (i.e., Kucinich).

Strikes me as nice fellow but his political capital went down the drain with Kerry's presidential aspirations. Too many Dems declared him damaged goods after Kerry and he failed to carry NC in 2004. Yes, the mainly liberal media do want either the Tammy Wynettish-Clinton or Kennedesque-Obama to be sworn in as the next president.
The mainly liberal media? Like the one ran by that pinko commie Rupert Murdoch? Give me a break... maybe the reporters and journalists tend to be liberal, but their bosses almost never are.
Right, the so called liberal media is a joke. If the media had a liberal bias they would have given far more time to Edwards (and Kucinich) who is actually a liberal.
Javero--do you honestly think the media is "liberal"? Do you not understand how for 7 years or more the media has constantly reinforced the conservative status quo?
Or do you really think the media is "liberal"?

What media is that? The windmills in your mind media? The media falls consistently on the liberal side.
The national cable news networks are decidedly conservative. Having said that, there is plenty of liberalism alive and well in print and local media.
What channels are you watching Goth? Aside from the NYTimes, I can't think of a major media outlet that has a liberal bias--the other NYC papers certainly don't--the free ones do--but that's their purpose.
