If I had not already committed to the family trip on the 27th, I probably would have found a way to impose myself on the framily again this holiday season. I love visiting you all at Xmas time.
My shopping is all done. Now I just have to wait around until the 27th to begin the cruise. Hopefully, there will be plenty of gin...

BB - I have always prepared rib roast or beef tenderloin - I am testing the waters to do turkey and ham. Our Christmas Eve host might object.
I'm doing beef tenderloin. Yorkshire pudding. Veggies. (Still deciding which veggies to serve). Sauces: Bordelaise and Bernaise.
For dessert: yule log and a Christmas pudding (from Harrods) that I serve with brandy (which we light and then all sing as it burns off) and hard sauce.
Family tradition. We laugh at ourselves as we sing to the flaming Christmas pudding every year, but we would never change our routine!
I've been doing some trial runs with my new range. The upper oven needs an adjustment, so I'm trying to make that happen before next week. The lower oven seems to be pretty true.
And cookies. Lots and lots of Christmas cookies.
Shopping is mostly done. Cards need to be finished. Haven't started wrapping.
Need to get my tableware out and make sure I have clean linens. Polished silver.
And I have to decorate... I'm really excited to host this year!
YWIW - a cruise sounds wonderful. A real get-away!
Boobs, your menu sounds yummy. My sister is bringing all of the appetizers and snacks, so I don't have to worry about that.
I decided to take Thursday off, so I have a shot at getting things done. Fingers crossed!
It's the most wonderful time of the year...
Good morning, all. Thought I'd pose this question here. Does the amount of greeting cards you receive this time of year seem to be dwindling in number over the years? I get a lot of enjoyment writing out my cards, but it seems that not too many people uphold this tradition. I got my first e-Christmas card this year, and my attitude was, "why bother?" I don't mind those for birthdays though.
Addy the mention of all of you singing over a flaming Christmas pudding made me smile.

Inquiring minds want to know: What is the proper flaming pudding song? Disco Inferno maybe?
I think I'm going to do a Honey Bake ham this year. Too busy to tend to too many details in the kitchen Christmas Day. Moonchild is in charge of breakfast.
Dottie - I haven't sent out cards for the past 6 years. This time of year is really crazy for me and I can never find the time. I feel badly about that and I always hope that those near and dear to me know that my lack of snail mail is not a reflection of my lack of affection.

Addy - I have not had luck with Yorkshire pudding and have not served them in a few years.
Mr. Brd is British and we flame the "figgie pudding" and sing every year.
As much as I've been dying to make a coconut cake with a lemon curd center recipe I have I just don't have the time. Perhaps I'll make it for New Years Eve.

I am not even sure when I am shopping, I guess Sunday after our Holiday Party!
I do 99.9% of my shopping online. I hate dealing with the crowds and people in general. I'll pay the shipping charges as long as I can stay in the comfort of my own home...well sometimes my work desk too

Mrs. Brd needs a "commuter" coat - NorthFace is rarely on sale. She takes care of the kids, so I do not have to worry about them.
We sing "We Wish You A Merry Christmas"! With much gusto.
Because it's dessert. And there has been wine and merriment by that point in the meal...
I still send out cards, but, yes, the number I receive seems to diminish each year. As long as I get enjoyment out of writing and sending them, I'll continue. If it starts becoming a stress point, then I'll step back.
My shopping was split between online and in-store. This year I am giving a lot of 'favorite restaurant' gift certificates, because none of us really need more 'things'. And they will come in handy for the family members who are renovating this winter.
I still haven't gotten my grab bag/lottery gift for Friday's lunch with my birthday dinner girls. $25. I try to stay away from food, tea, coffee, etc. Might not have a choice this year, though I haven't seen anything nice around. Any ideas??!!
I've been doing Christmas cards since Sunday night. Still hasn't happened.

Mornin'
Cards done and sent. Whew.
Big pow wow here this morning between the Contractor and the Electrician -- apparently there was another screaming match yesterday while I was out running errands. To borrow a phrase from Tink: Never a dull moment.

I think I figured out the seating arrangements for Christmas. HC and I moved a lot of things around last night, so hopefully this works. Luckily I bought 2 folding tables.

Oh yea, I'm so happy that Jacquie Lee finished in 2nd place last night on The Voice. She's a friend of a friend's daughter. What an accomplishment for a 16 year old.

She has a lot of poise!
For the hours I pay the mouse secretary very well and am so tolerant of lateness, missed days, eating at her desk and all her personal drama at least she could dress in a professional manner. She is wearing a sweater that looks like she grabbed off a homeless!
I know I can be a crybaby, but this damn burn really hurts! At least the one part does. The part near the left of my thumb. It's really red, and kinda gouged. The location could also be contributing to the pain, since it gets moved a lot. I hope it's not infected. I'm going to go to our CVS and see what they think.
