Mornin'
One more class, on Wednesday, and that's one that was added for review of the course material. Two of the biddies in the department set this up on a day when all classes have been cancelled so students can study for their finals; they decided it was a great day to do this. I'm not happy, and my students are FURIOUS because they've had to rearrange stuff in order to be there on a day they weren't planning to be there. I don't blame them, but I can't really tell them not to come, nor can I explain that whenever these two particular faculty members get together on anything it's always a cluster-cluck.
Other than that, though, I'm done. The workers are here, grouting the new floor in the kitchen. Meanwhile the apartment below us is also abuzz with noise. The contractor is due here any minute; once my meeting with him is over I'm out of here for the day; a little writing/polishing in Starbucks, and then taking myself to see "Saving Mr. Banks," as J2 has made it quite clear he has no interest in seeing it.
One of the things I missed growing up was a Xmas tree. I know some Jews have a Hannukah bush, and I know that pagan history associated with the tree, but it just never felt right to have one. I do have my grandma's small holiday music box that comes out for the holidays that is a tree, and have a ornament tree (which holds, among other things, a prized peace symbol), but I just never felt right with a tree. And now, with the beasts, even if I could justify one, I am sure Zander would destroy it in no time fast.
So, I love the trees, I love their smell, and I love looking at all of the pictures. A friend who I am helping out sent me pictures of her tree with gifts I bought for her kids, and it got me all warm and fuzzy.

An artificial tree is much easier, but, I love a real tree.
Christmas Trees are, for me, all about memories. Each ornament, the feel and smell of the tree - they bring back each and every Christmas in such a real way. It's an emotional journey to put up my tree each year.
Happy Monday. My last work Monday of the year. Can't believe I made it!

Last work-week of the year begins today for me too. Yeah! Next week at this time I'll be at mom's having her home made gallo pinto and hanging out in shorts and t-shirt.
We got our first tree last year; we didn't put one up this year since jS leaves on Wednesday for SoCA and I leave Saturday.
My grandmother believed if you didn't put a tree up for Christmas it was bad luck for the whole year. She had a little ceramic tree that lit up. She put that out every year as her Christmas tree. The only Christmas she wouldn't put a tree out was when my grandfather died. You're supposed to mourn that first Christmas. My mother, on the other hand, didn't believe in any of it.

If we're Facebook friends you've seen my new profile pic, a tribute to the wonderful memories every Christmas ornament holds.
And it's been that kind of morning, with memories just flooding back while watching "Saving Mr. Banks." No review except to say it's a time machine that took me back to my childhood and my own memories of seeing "Mary Poppins," and, of course, my parents. I loved it, although I admit I cried almost continuously for the last third of the film.
And I have a new code name for BritTwit: Mrs. Travers. When you see the film you'll see exactly what working with him was like.
Love my Christmas Tree!! Even if it does look crooked in the pic I posted on FB. Doesn't look that way in person. And no, I'm not looking at it thru drink infested eyes!!
ETA: We had an artificial tree when I was growing up. We did put up the tree the Christmas after my Mom died, even though it was only two months later. I think the following year, I asked my Dad if we could have a real one, since I'd never had one. He and I went to a tree farm, picked out our tree, and they cut it down for us. Dad drew the line at actually doing the cutting himself. We did that for a couple years, and then I was satisfied and we went back to our artificial one.

You've got more white stuff? Sheesh. By the way, how much did you end up getting on Saturday?
4.5 inches according to nj.com in our area.

Not bad. Our problem was ice, rather than snow.DC is always on that snow/ice line that moves up and down.
It was a little slippery walking this morning being the light snow is hiding the ice beneath it.
Had to buy a folding table last night being my Christmas dinner increased yesterday by 5. I am now up to 22 peeps.

I'll be there around 2..... :)
Morning! This being back to work thing stinks. Getting to work wasn't too bad since it is mostly one highway, but fishtailed a bit on the side road to my office. Hopefully this ends before rushhour.

It sure is pretty out there. I love watching the snow fall in the park. And the people, too.
