The panic is escalating out of control.
And, the 24-hour news and financial talking heads don't help matters when they lead their broadcasts with attention-grabbing headlines and people making all sorts of dangerous statements. (Suzy Orman last night said that she thinks this is going to end up with breadlines like we've never seen. Doesn't really help with consumer confidence!)
We have to give the 'medicine' time to work. I know it's not enough. I know it's not perfect. But, we're making it worse by not just taking a deep breath, realizing that things are going to be really rough for a while and just riding out what we can...
I realize we all have different circumstances, but, the panic isn't helping anyone. It's destroying what little we have left.
As a homeowner who has lived within her means, saved, and played by the rules, I feel such anger at this situation. But, I'll do what I can to be part of the solution. As long as I'm not wiped out by idiocy!
I think I need to go to the gym and lift millions of pounds of weights. They say that makes a person feel better...
Yeah...breaking an arm with weights is NOT what you need right now, Addy.
So, maybe I'll just run...
And, you're right. I was just pouring over some benefits statements for some recent dental visits. Amazing what ISN'T covered... None of us need unnecessary bills at the moment!
Staying in is the new going out!
A run sounds awesome, Addy. I hate these sniffles I have, they ruin my exercise!
Oh, dental - don't even start. It's craaazy.
I suppose we'll all be too broke to eat junk food. There's a silver lining!
Off I go. Have a good evening. And, hope you had a good fast and day of reflection!

I think I'll go for a run myself. What a day - in and out of the markets.
My daughter called to say that her firm (an international architect & interior design co.) announced today that there would be layoffs at the end of the month. She thinks her particular studio will be ok because they handle non-profits and have some work in Dubai, but the studio next to her's does design for financial institutions and many of their contracts have been cancelled. Yesterday they downsized their marketing department. The collateral damage begins.....
She's doing it again. OMGYOUGUYS - she's now singing along while she blasts the You Tube of the MTV broadcast!
I know a number of friends who are concerned about funding for their work. Not that any of us are 'safe'... I am sure we'll be facing layoffs at some point, although so far we've been able to avoid that by not filling open positions.
So, everyone is stressed and overworked. But, I'll take it over unemployment in these troubled times.
I have remained steadfast in my belief that in the long run things will recover and find strength in not being built on a house of cards. But, the short term is really daunting.

I share your optimism, Addy. Must be the champagne.

D2 - I think you are perfectly justified in hitting her upside the head.
Thanks, Q. Always the voice of reason
And thanks, Addy - another voice of reason. A toast to you!

And with one last swig, I'm outta here! MWAH!
Me too. Gonna chug lots of water, a piece of challah bread, and see my friend's show. Ciao!

My weekend starts on Thursday night, and I have nothing to do!
My friend's show was overbooked, so no show for me.
Back home. A movie, mayhaps?

I watched The Office and went to the 3-D art studio to help a friend with a sculpture. Now we're on my bed waiting to see which of us you-know-who calls first to hang out. It's good times.
Oh yeah, and I'm writing a story for fun.

Nothing to do? The only weekend that we had "nothing to do" was during the recent floods and the city was idle. I enjoyed the weekend, but we did at least 8 loads of laundry, cleaned the house, etc.
This crisis sucks further for me because my expenses are the highest ever! I have prepped the kids that things will be different with this economic collapse. But, that is fine. There has not been much wanting by the Brd kids. No, not spoiled but nice lives they have had.
For me it is now "old school." I may not give you a $20 to go to the movies, go to Old Navy rather than A&F, read a book!!
There is a jar of quarters in the kitchen and Mrs. Brd and I joke that we will hide them in the case we have no cash, at least there is some coins for booze!
There's always things to do, but I'd rather do nothing than wash windows!

I'd rather be all English-majorey and write a story than do anything else.
Morning, kiddles. Picked up the car last night, and so far so good. Didn't cut out on me at all. *keeps fingers crossed*
Happy Friday peeps!!

Good morning Girly! Good news about the car.
Mornin'
Yeah, thank God.
I had this convo with this guy here yesterday about how nice it's going to be this weekend down by me, you know living at the shore and all. I love how people think anywhere south of the Driscoll Bridge is "the shore". haha
ETA: Deet! You snuck in there. Thanks for the java!
