Mamie - growing up in southeastern Virginia through the 70's, we ALWAYS had them (there was actually one about 4 blocks from our house!) To this day, I have a hard time eating any other kind of doughnut.

I was going to send this one to DD - since he missed getting one earlier and he's so far away, he does need his own courier...

I believe the first time I had one (or a dozen) of those hot doughnuts was down in Lynchburg. I guess it is one of those Virginia country kind of things. Although I used to have a good friend who lived on 23rd Street, between 7th and 8th Avenues. There was a Krispy Kreme just one door from hers and it was an AWFUL temptation whenever I stayed there.
