YWIW, that picture is priceless!!!
Since we're on the topic of nicknames, HI, GRACIE!!!!
I've never really had a nickname ...
I had some in HS, but they all seem quite silly now.
And Shira, he is doing much better. This was the other shot before Zorra fully realized who she had slept with last night...
She woke up completely, and then the "look" occurred.
Hey Miss P!
DD - We'll call you "Spec" short for "Spectacular".
I just took a nice, long bath. I deserved it.
I have never had a nickname either, DD. Knowing this, by best friend tried to start calling me, "Amie." It didn't catch on. You really can't shorten Amber.
I took a shower. I needed it!
JG2, I'll just call you AMB.
YWIW - Zorra is hysterical.
No really, that's okay.
How about Ambien? zzzzzzzzzzzzz
That would be much more appropriate. I do have one friend who calls me meds.
My sister's name is Valerie or "Val." But when she was in her heavy-metal band, she was known as "Valium." So "Ambien" has positive connotations for me.

Xanax!
Yes, but you have to leave to be able to come back.
This adventure may be stressful, occasionally scary, and maybe lonely now and again, but it is an amazing beginning to your life.
Just try to go with it, and if you are sad, feel sad. And if you are excited, feel excited. And, enjoy all of the new and exciting and bizarre things you will experience.
Let YWIW wax philosophic. I say "VALIUM!" And Ambien says, "XANAX!"
You've got a few sound choices there.

I know. But goodness! My mom asks me if I've seen a certain friend lately, and I tell her that I'm going to see John Mayer with that friend on Saturday night. She then gets angry because she loves John Mayer and wants to go.
Then, I mention trying to see a lot of my friends before they leave, she gets angry and asks why she should feel sorry for me since college is a privilege. I understand that, but I can miss my friends, right?
My best friends have either left or are leaving this week. My boyfriend left. I am having a wickedly hard time. And she's being rotten.
Just remember, DGG, that this is tough time for your mom too. It's a transition for her as well, and I'm sure it's tough on her emotionally. (Are you going to college far away from home?)

45 minutes. Hardly a distance. I know it's hard for her, because she won't let me forget.
Oh well. I'm just going to ignore her jabs tonight.
I freaked out right before I started college, and so did my mom.
Are you the oldest? She must be thinking about so many things: your growing up, her age, your future, her past, lots and lots of things. If you can keep in mind that she is having some trouble going through this transition, you may be able to help her. I know it's kind of the "reverse" of how it "should" be, but sometimes it's the kids who have to be the parents. Know what I mean?
When I moved into my first apartment 15 minutes from my mom's house she had a really hard time with it. I, of course, was dealing with the fact that all my friends were moving away plus I was trying to get my life in order so I could move. All she could think was that her eldest wasn't going to be living at home anymore. 45 minutes or halfway around the world, it doesn't matter. She won't be there when you turn out the lights. My mom did the bitchy thing, too.
