This sounds like a fun show. The music will be fabulous.
You Don't Own Me
(Madara-White)
You don't own me
I'm not just one of your many toys
You don't own me
Don't say I can't go with other boys
Don't tell me what to do
Don't tell me what to say
An' please, when I go out with you
Don't put me on display
You don't own me
Don't try to change me in anyway
You don't own me
Don't tie me down 'cause I'll never stay
I don't tell you what to say
I don't tell you what to do
So just let me be myself
That's all I ask of you
I'm young and I love to be young
I'm free and I love to be free
To live my life the way I want
To say and do whatever I please

Love that Song Beacon1....I've always been a big Lesley Gore fan...when I was young I wrote her a fan letter and she sent me back a nice note with an autographed picture which I still have. One of my favorites of hers, though not so popular is "The Old Crowd":
Sometimes I get to thinkin' 'bout days gone by
And I start cryin' every time
What I wouldn't give if I could just relive
One day with those old friends of mine
No one ever planned it, but every day at 4
We would get together at the corner candy store
We would just ignore the sign "No dancing allowed"
Oh wo yeah, I miss the old crowd
Sally was the funny one, Sue wore the hippest clothes
Eddie was the wise guy, was always one of those
Johnny used to sing off-key before he was allowed
Oh wo yeah, I miss the old crowd
Well now, it's funny when high school gets all through
Friendships always come to an end
Everybody tells you they'll keep in touch, yeah
But you don't see them again, oh no
It's not that I'm unhappy; I know I still have you
But I still think about those good times we knew
We were so carefree & our thoughts were out loud
Oh wo yeah, I miss the old crowd
(repeat & fade):
Yeah, I miss the old crowd
"Hey, did any of you ladies ever participate in wife-swapping "key" parties?"
How F***ing old do you think we are? I was a child in the 70's.

Beacon1 -I felt it was very fitting for this thread, but it always one of my favorites and I know it was the flip side of one of her more famous songs because of course I have the 45. It might have been the flip side of "It's My Party" actually.
Sign me up as well, who knows if we get enough people we could get the group discount price.
I'll start a list. Group discount..yea !!!
woo hoo!! See BB I told you we'd get together somehow!
Who here honestly thinks show centered on women are a rarity? Chicago has two tour-de-force female leads, there's also this tiny show called Wicked running...Caroline or Change features a boy but the best two roles in the show are a mother and daughter, not to mention a wonderful Supremes-like trio...yeah, we're starving for shows starring women. :)
Historically, that's what Broadway is. A showcase for talented divas.

Just heard "I'm A Believer" and "Sweet Caroline" on my oldiest station.
Ooh--another Neil Diamond song is on: "Forever in Blue Jeans"...
excuse me while I get up and dance around my office...

Beacon 1 can I cut in??? I love to dance. Do you Hustle? How about Bump??? Electric slide???
Oh yea ... Bwaysinger...shut up !!! It's all about the songs in the show and the time period that's why we want to go...who cares about Divas??? You know I still love you though..right
Oh, Boobs, I think it's a totally fun show! My former teacher's theatre closed a production of it after running Forever Plaid for years, too...I have many friends who have done it. I'm all for that kind of entertainment as opposed to the kind where they try to string together a serious musical storyline as, oh, say, Mamma Mia? :)
I want to see it, too, although I'm underwhelmed by all the praise for Debbie Allen. Am I the only one who remembers her choreography on the Oscars?

bwaysinger... I'm including you in our little group going to see this then. I may even pay for your ticket if you're a good boy.
YES..unlike your puppy if I recall..LOL !!!
I know it is only Wednesday... but what are folks planning for the weekend?
"did I mention I'm trainable? :)"
Do I dare even ask what you are trainable for?
I'm having dinner with friends on Saturday and maybe some beach time to darken the tan if the weather cooperates.
Other than that, I'm open to suggestions.
Friday meeting up with some crazy friends and Saturday "Dracula" matinee. Sunday hopefully relaxation.
Dracula?? BB OK I am jealous. We'll be heading out to Niagra Falls most likely on Sunday, a dy there then a few days in Toronto, museums and shows (look like it's going to be Urinetown) maybe some shopping. Then a long drive through Ontario to Quebec down through Vermont and back home to Massachusetts.
sounds like fun mom....make sure you bring games for the car.
Sorry, this is a little late, but BB, you say that song is on the flipside of "It's My Party".
Why wasn't "Judy's Turn to Cry" on the flipside?
It just seems to make more sense...
My favorite Lesley Gore is "Sunshine, Lollipops, and Rainbows".
It's just so cute and happy!
Also, I've been trying to download "Maybe I Know", but no luck as of yet.
