Ah, Sundays in DC. When I lived there in the very early 80s, they used to have free concerts in the ancient music section of the Smithsonian - and that's where you could find me most of the time!
Those concerts do start up soon - now it is usually chamber music in the atrium of the West Wing of the National Gallery. DC is a lazy town - the farmer's market doesn't get humming until late in the morning - back in my days in Madison I remember people being halkway through their workdays by 10am!

Oh, BT, you should see LA! The reputation of 'laid back' is based on truth. Much of the midwest never got rid of its 'farmer mentality' roots, and still goes about the business of life based on the cycle of the sun.
Well last night I was up until 4, so that whole midwestern farmer thing is out the window!

Is it because of the board? I'm afraid I fall into that trap of deciding to say one more thing, which leads to another, which leads to another . . . and then it's three hours later!
partially - and some engaging video entertainment - and way too much caffeine - and knowing i didn't have to get up the next day ... blah blah blah
Hey everyone. I just found some old pictures and found pictures from the first "book show" show I ever did when I was a freshman in High School. I did "West Side Story" and I played Baby John. What was eveyones first?

When I was 11, I played Brutus in an all-city children's theatre presentation of Julius Caesar. I always wished I could have maintained that high standard throughout my artistic endeavors. Let's just say it didn't happen.

I've never had a really big part in plays except the female lead in the schools Christmas pageant when I was 5. A little boy and I were supposed to be trying to wait up for Santa to come and fell asleep. The pageant that unfolded was our dream. Afterwards we woke up and realized Christmas had come even tho' we had been asleep.
But, doing "Reader's Theatre" presentations in High School I've been Juliet, Lady MacBeth,...oh and Emily in "Our Town".
I went to a very small school so it wasn't that difficult to get cast as something...plus I liked reading aloud in class so the teachers knew who I was...
That phase passed, though. Now I much prefer being behind the scenes. I love directing things, telling folks what to do...(my mother says I've always been a bit bossy...LOL!)

Beacon - if everyone was ON stage, then nothing would ever happen. SOMEONE has to build the sets, make the costumes, run the lights and sound. I know many people who love doing all the 'other' stuff - and many times the headaches are a LOT less severe
Good Morning all. labor Day childhood memory. When I was young, I found Labor Day depressing. I mean because it's the end of summer. Growing up we spent our summers down the Jersey shore and most people left early, so the place was dead and I was still there. I always had an emptiness because most of the people I met during the summer I would'nt see until the next summer. Some I may never see again. I remember sitting on our front porch in Seaside Heights and playing John Denver's "Take Me Home Country Roads" over and over. Is that pathetic or what?.
no boobs, it isn't.....
thanx for sharing
and here's a big virtual hug from me to you (((BroadwayBoobs)))
Same here BB, well minus the Jersey shore (insert White Mountains) and the John Denver song, I think my end of summer song was either "Beach Baby" or the Beach Boys "All Summer Long".
So here is another hug for summers lost long ago!
HUGGGGS!

No news on the Lizzie front. But with it being Labor day and all... who knows????? A nana can only hope!

mominator - I do hope your daughter is able to have at least SOME comfort. This period is always the worst.
Boobs, for you
Almost heaven, West Virginia
Blue ridge mountains
Shenandoah river -
Life is old there
Older than the trees
Younger than the mountains
Growin’ like a breeze
Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West virginia, mountain momma
Take me home, country roads
All my memories gathered ¡®round her
Miner’s lady, stranger to blue water
Dark and dusty, painted on the sky
Misty taste of moonshine
Teardrops in my eye
Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West virginia, mountain momma
Take me home, country roads
I hear her voice
In the mornin’ hour she calls me
The radio reminds me of my home far away
And drivin’ down the road I get a feelin’
That I should have been home yesterday, yesterday
Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West virginia, mountain momma
Take me home, country roads
Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West virginia, mountain momma
Take me home, country roads
Take me home, now country roads
Take me home, now country roads

Awww. DGrant. Such nostalgia with that song.
I looked out the window this a.m. and some of the trees looking frighteningly pre-autumnal...here Buffalo we really haven't had much summer at all. Cooler temps, tons of rain, etc... Every picnic/cookout I've attended has been chilly and overcast...it's a shock to realize that today is Labor Day.

And, this time of year reminds me of moving into the dorms at college. Invariably someone would be blaring their stereo out the window.

Gotta love Boz Scaggs!
Hi all!
Still no Lizzie?? I thought for sure there would be some news when I got back.
Missed you all...love all the new icons!
Too much to catch up on/go back and comment on, so I'll just say a quick hello, hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday weekend, and offer a quick toast to the start of a new 'season' (post-labor day season...)
Cheers!
Thanks beacon for another favorite blast from the past! Always liked the Lido Shuffle.
Sadly for my daughter, no Lizzie yet. Anna (and the future grandparents) are getting quite edgy!
Hope everyone had a great Labor Day!

Good evening everyone. Did you all have a fun Labor Day weekend? So, little Miss Elizabeth still refuses to join us? Perhaps, like any good diva, she wants to make a late and fabulous entrance.
I noticed that the message board has another Nina. I don't know that there is room for two of us.
By the way, DGrant, just going back a page, you deserve your moment to shine. Although, I think you have shone on this board many times. We all notice it but, apparently, you haven't.

Nina,
Other ninas may come and go but you are THE Nina! :o)

That may be true, beacon but, the confusion has already started. I just a weird pm from a strange person who apparently had me confused with this counterfeit Nina.
hey guys! Sorry I've been MIA. Crazy weekend and week!
First of all, the Republican Convention completely ruined the restaurant business this week, which is sad; I always thought the Repubs would be better tippers. Guess I was wrong! :)

Congrats on the apartment, bwaysinger!! I was wondering how that was all working...
Exit 18-year-old from thread.
I need to walk my dog...but it's midnight. This presents me with quite the conundrum.

bwaysinger - can't really tell from the posts whether you have indeed gotten an apartment or not - if you have, GREAT!
Nina - you are too kind, but your attention is humbly appreciated.
mominator - Anna is in our thoughts - as are you - and Elizabeth will b=grace us with her presense when SHE is ready
Welcome back, Nydgal !!!!!!!!!!!!
