re: Carole King

Sometimes you win sometimes you lose,
and sometimes the blues just get a hold of you
just when you though you had made it.
All around the block people will talk,
but I want to give it all that I've got
I just don't want, I don't want to waste it.

Chorus
Talkin' 'bout sweet seasons on my mind.
Sure does appeal to me.
You know you can get there easily,
just like a sailboat sailin' on the sea.

Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose,
and most times you choose between the two
wonderin', wonderin' if you have made it.
But I'll have some kids and make my plans,
and I'll watch the seasons running away
and I'll build me a life in the open, a life in the country.

Chorus
Talkin' 'bout sweet seasons on my mind.
Sure does appeal to me.
You know you can get there easily,
just like a sailboat sailin' on the sea....

re: Carole King

Have fun tonight, guys!

So far away
Doesn't anybody stay in one place anymore
It would be so fine to see your face at my door
It doesn't help to know, you're just time away

Long ago I reached for you and there you stood
Holding you again could only do me good
How I wish I could
But you're so far away

One more song about moving along the highway
Can't say much of anything that's new
If I could only work this life out my way
I'd rather spend it being close to you
But you're so far away

Traveling around sure gets me down and lonely
Nothing else to do but close my mind
I sure hope the road don't come to own me
There's so many dreams I've yet to find
Oh, but you're so far away

I hung out with Cheyenne Jackson in his dressing room waayyyyyy before he tickled D2.

Are PJ and Addy lovers??

re: Carole King

No, but winter, spring, summer or fa-hall
All she's got to do is just ca-hall
And I'll BE there (yes, I will)...

re: Carole King

It was nice seeing you, as always, Undi.

What was your favorite song? I loved all the ballads, but for some reason, Smackwater Jack keeps making me smile.

re: Carole King

'Twas a terrific evening and an outstanding concert. It was oddly warm and intimate for such a big venue, but damn, she pulled it off!

And thanks for the anniversary wishes... It was an ideal way to celebrate!

It was an honor to share your anniversary, iflit.

I know, Undi. Up on the Roof makes me think of growing up in the Bronx.

Her songs are so evocative. And her spirit was so open and gracious.

And she was SEXY!

She made me feel--
She made me feel--
She made me feel--

re: Carole King

Welcome to my living room!

I also really loved the way she sang this tonight:

Now and forever
you are a part of me
And the memory cuts like a knife
Didnt we find the ecstacy
Didnt we share the daylight
When you walked into my life
Now and forever
I'll remember all the promises still unbroken
And think about all the words between us
That never needed to be spoken
We had a moment
Just one moment
That will last beyond a dream,
Beyond a lifetime
We are the lucky ones
Some people never get to do
All we got to do
Now and forever
I will always think of you
Didnt we come together
Didnt we live together
Didnt we cry together
Didnt we play together
Didnt we love together
And together we lit up the world
I miss the tears
I miss the laughter
I miss the day we met
and all that followed after
Sometimes I wish I
could always be with you
The way we used to do
Now and forever
I will always think of you
Now and forever
I will always be with you

Sorry I didn't get a chance to see you guys last night...wasn't sure where you were all sitting, but I did look....actually went to the bar during intermission for a drink and thought I'd see you there. re: Carole King

She was amazing...I had the BEST time. I bought the CD and got the wrist band that says "You've Got A Friend" with it...so sweet.
I never realized that "Pleasant Valley Sunday" was written because of Pleasant Valley Way in West Orange, NJ....I've been on that road many, many times. I LOVED all her stories.
Love "Now & Forever" and of course "It's Too Late" still gets me singing. "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" was so much fun to sing along with. re: Carole King I didn't want it to be over. re: Carole King

Boobs! I looked for you at the bar during intermission! And tried calling you...

I didn't want it to end, either. Also bought the CD and love the bracelet. A wonderful reminder of a really special night.

Her energy and presence and story-telling and comfort, and WOW! Can that woman still ROCK! An inspiration!

She's going to perform on the Today Show on Friday... we get a little bit more. re: Carole King

Morning Addy....damn we must've been at different bars. re: Carole King

She can totally still rock...and all those great songs she wrote...I'm am still wound up by the whole thing. So I was thinking that maybe her and James Taylor should do a concert together...how's that sound?

Anyone know what the whole reference was about the "Eagles" ? Person behind me was talking and I missed what she was saying.

re: Carole King

She was saying that she was fulfilling her dream of being in the Eagles without actually "having to interact with the Eagles." Snap!

re: Carole King

I found this review from an earlier concert, which I think is pretty true:

King's voice was in pretty good shape--a bit rough around the edges but in a good way. When singing quietly, her phrasing was as full of nuance and soul as ever. In belt-it-out mode, she'd miss some notes and hit some others but it was all very genuine and devil-may-care. Really, she's one of the all-time best white R&B singers, comparable to Van Morrison in how naturally and deeply she's absorbed and personalized her influences. She's also a kind of cabaret singer-performer, very showbiz and corny at times ("This is what 63 looks like!"), but charmingly so. (She did look great.) When she went back to her early Goffin-King collaborations, especially "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?" and "Up On the Roof," I felt pretty sure that I was listening to the best pop songs ever written. A world of rather deep emotion in a package designed for teenage consumption. Lennon and McCartney once said that they wanted to be the British Goffin and King, which is the ultimate endorsement. I'm mad for Lieber-Stoller, Goffin-King, Mann-Weill, and all that Brill Building stuff. (King and Goffin, by the way, didn't actually work in the Brill Building; they were in another building across the street). The chord progressions found in some of the best Goffin-King tunes were this great amalgam of pop and R&B/gospel changes, much simpler than most Broadway and Tin Pan Alley changes but fancier than most R&B changes, and always very elegant, much like King's best melodies and Goffin's best lyrics.

Addy, I loved Carole's Living Room concert last summer and when I heard that she was going on tour again this summer, I knew I had to see her sing her classics again. I'm very much looking forward to her show! Hey, Atlanta's just a quick flight from LaGuardia... Wahoo!

re: Carole King

Boobs--sorry we missed you!

And how about the amazing transformation of "Where You Lead, I Will Follow" from pre-feminist love song to submissive lyrics she felt uncomfortable singing to a song about mother/daughter love as the theme song to "The Gilmore Girls"!

Jungle... do NOT tempt me! re: Carole King

PalJoey - I loved that transformation. I have been thinking about how much Carole King influenced me during my formative years... (along with others, including Joni). I am very sentimental about her. I have probably never heard her Tapestry album without thinking of a very specific time in my youth, which was really important to who I am as an adult.
