Let the protests begin. Picket, call, complain, and take your business elsewhere.
Chick-Fil-A is bringing their Religious Based Hatred to NYC.

Everytime you buy something, do you ask the person what their position is on gay rights? When you go into the store and buy clothes, do you call up the manufacturer and ask what the belief system of the stitcher is?
Chick-Fil-A will be providing jobs for all those who got laid off when Rawhide and Splash closed.

No, Goth, but in this instance, no one has to. The CEO has made his stance clear. If someone goes to all the trouble of telling me whom he thinks should be discriminated against, I take him at his word.

My boyfriend was looking at expensive tiles for a bathroom redo and the salesman was super nice. They went to his desk to find out the total cost (it was a lot but it was a local business and he wanted to not go to a chain if possible) and right there pasted on the wall at the guy's desk was a Xerox of Sarah Palin's face and the question, "How's that hopey changey thing workin' out for ya?". He thanked the salesman for his time and took his business elsewhere.
If you put your sh t out there, whether it's cool sh t or horrible Sarah Palin sh t, you need to know there are repercussions. The only people I know who seem to whine about it are the Mike Huckabee types who organize Hate Sandwich Day and call it an act of religious liberty.

I have never been to this either. I don't support companies that are hateful. I no longer buy Barilla pasta either.
All my money goes to Jacks stores and Trader Joe's. Hopefully nothing ever happens with either of those companies because I would not give up either as I love them sooo much. How can you pass up Blueberry muffin oatmeal with flax seeds for 99 cents. I eat so much oatmeal these days. So boring.

Posted: 4/9/14 at 4:41pmThere's a difference between putting your sh t out there and having your personal sh t exposed by rabid haters. This is, after all, the community who exposes people's sexuality whether they want it exposed or not.

Corine, you aren't missing anything. It's so amusing to me when people get excited about chains coming to New York City. I had their bigoted chicken once in Virginia years before I knew about their company. I was wearing a "Legalize Gay" shirt when I walked in, and the young cashier told me how much she loved it, and gave me a sad smile.
There are some really great fantastic places to eat chicken around NYC that aren't hateful chains. This will be popular among the masses though.

For years Chick-Fil-A has catered to the religious right. They have been outspoken and loud. They have been rewarded for their bigotry by "Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day" and such. They preached to their customers down south about their religious views and were rewarded by their support and business.
Now they want to move to the urban 'liberal' cities because there is more money to be made. NOW AND ONLY NOW Dan Cathy has decided maybe he should just keep his mouth shut, after all he wants to NOW put stores up where there are gays and minorities and liberals who don't think like him. This is all business, nothing more than business.
So, I won't give my business to anyone who thinks less of me and discriminates. It's that simple.

I too won't be eating at Chick-Fil-A. I also doubt that those who got laid off from Rawhide and Splash will be applying to, much less being hired by, Chick-Fil-A.
Bigotry is bigotry and I'm glad that the LGBT grassroots movement has learned that money speaks. They will be getting none of mine.

Posted: 4/9/14 at 5:20pmI'm pretty sure there are enough people in New York City who will abandon their moral compass in favor of incredibly delicious chicken.
Chick-Fil-A Coming To NYC#15
Posted: 4/9/14 at 5:22pmI lived in the South for six years and ate at Chick-Fil-A all the time. The only "preaching" I ever heard was that all stores were closed on Sundays to make sure that employees spent time with their families. Maybe they didn't preach to me because I didn't know the secret handshake.

Ugh, they just opened a gigantic store around the corner from me.
I was really hoping it would flop, but I gotta tell you that place is packed. I mean literally 12 - 15 cars deep at the drive through constantly.
And they just slaughtered (sorry) KFC in first quarter earnings. With just a third of the number of locations.
They also announced an aggressive expansion plan, of which this NYC store is part.
So folks, it looks like they're going to be hating and baking for at least the near future.

Goth, are you serious? You were totally unaware of Dan Cathy's position on same sex marriage and his views towards gays? Really? I've heard more about his views then I have about the food and this has been his doing. He has been the one to make it very clear where he stands. He is proud of the money he has donated against same sex marriage. Dan Cathy has been the one who is vocal about his position and views. Since you don't know how to use 'The Google', let me help you out.

Posted: 4/9/14 at 6:00pmromantico, are you serious? Is Dan Cathy barring gay people from buying chicken sandwiches? Please show me what store this is happening in. Relax and let capitalism flow. The taxes his stores pay in NYC will benefit gay people too. The money he pays his gay employees will go to support gay marriage.

Goth,I and many others like me refuse to give Chick-Fil-A our business. I'm just pointing out his business hypocrisy. Because he wants to NOW do business in some north east cities, he knew he had to either change his position or just keep his big mouth shut regarding his hate which he disguises as 'his religious views'. Dan Cathy is a homophobe and I do not do business with 'his kind'. If you like Chick-Fil-A, knock yourself out and support him and his hateful views.

"Dan Cathy is a homophobe and I do not do business with 'his kind'"
Like I said, the taxes he pays in NYC will benefit gay people the same as straight people. And his employees are free to spend their wages anyway they want.

That's absolutely true. And those who don't want to fill the coffers of a man who spends a great deal of money trying to harm a specific group of people can spend theirs--or not--where they like.
I'm sure the stores will do just fine. But he won't be getting my money.
