I'm currently very angry at Chili's for taking away my beloved lettuce wraps, which were delicious. They are no longer on the menu.
End of an era.

Cruel: Have you ordered them since they took it off the menu? There are a lot of things you can order that aren't on the menu... like chicken fried chicken.
Just ask and see what they say.

Ooh, how about chicken fried chicteak? Chicken and steak fried together,
No offense , but GROSS!!!
Speaking of nasty fried food, how about fried twinkies, fried snicker bars, and the one I can't even figure out, fried
coca-cola.

Howabout the Volcano at Rain Forest Cafe?
I was just there not even a week ago. I couldn't finish my Pot Roast let alone the Volcano (Ironically the outside was a Volcano, Niagara Falls!). It looked really good though!!

Posted: 8/10/08 at 10:30amI tried Paula Dean's Peanut Butter Pie, which was not fried, and while I could feel my arteries closing up with every bite, it was a fantastic dessert.

Tazzy---Fried Coke is the Coke syrup mixed with a little bit of batter. They drop it in the deep fryer I guess. I've never tried it, but I've seen it at the county fairs.
I love county fairs! It's a white trash food lover's paradise. Every kind of food, deep fried... on a stick.
And the volcano cake at Chilli's is great! I had it once on a road stop during vacation. Yum!

Posted: 8/10/08 at 2:19pmLike I said, ask the server. They may still make it (hell, it's only lettuce and meat!) but not have it on the menu.

I've never been to Chili's. Someday.
Also, I tried to make fried Oreos once. Mix up some pancake batter, dip the Oreos in, and drop them in some oil. I probably could've done it better, but they were...not so bad? They were strange, let's say. The Oreo sucked up a lot of moisture and make it like a cake.

Posted: 8/10/08 at 8:15pmAs much as I appreciate the mammoth desserts that many of the chain restaurants serve, one trend of which I approve is that some now seem to also be offering normal, individual human sized desserts.

Cook's Illustrated has a wonderful recipe for Fallen Chocolate Cake in The New Best Recipe, a somewhat similar concoction (it's a very rich chocolate cake that is mildly undercooked, leaving the middle almost gooey). There's also a recipe for a more classic molten chocolate cake in their Restaurant Favorites at Home book, but I haven't tried it out yet.
As a lover of this kind of dessert, I have had many versions many places. Not surprisingly, the nicer restaurants do it far better than any chain ever could. I can remember the one at 82 Queen in Charleston, SC being spectacular, along with a little Italian place in Johnstown, PA (Numero Uno). I also had a very good version recently at a fine restaurant in Rochester.
