I'm not a fan, but I wish him well.
I wonder if this makes a presidential run in 2016 more likely.

He underwent it in February. In secret.
He wants to spend more time with his family...

A series of Christie/Clinton debates could be epic. However, the GOP is becoming suicidal at the national level, while remaining effective at the local level. It's difficult to see Christie surviving the GOP primaries.
'The only thing America hates more than some fat loudmouth ass hole is a skinny loudmouth ass hole.'
As much as I loathe them, the success of far right cable news and talk radio, as well as trashy 'reality' television, contradicts that statement.

He earned a few more fans after Sandy but I wouldn't use "soaring" to describe his popularity. After the hurricane he earned a bit more of my respect. But that doesn't mean I like him or would vote for him.
However, the national stage now knows his name and he may be more popular out of the state then in.
Also, he has fired back at his own party on more than one occasion. I wonder if there could be a switch in his future.

When you go from 500 pounds to 400 pounds, the results may not be as evident. At least he's heading in the white direction ... I mean right direction.

It's gastric band rather than gastric sleeve surgery. It's not as fast. Further, if he's not losing weight at the rate his doctors expect him to, they have to adjust the band by adding more fluid to further restrict the stomach. And, the sad part, the band doesn't work for everyone. Some don't lose any weight on it because the stomach can still expand as usual. The only advantages are being able to adjust the restriction level and reverse it if necessary.
And I apologize again for the stupidity of my home state in electing this man and supporting him. One of his first acts as governor was an attempt to defund the public library system to balance the budget. It would create a net savings of less than .1% of the budget. He lied about the negotiations to create a new rail system between NY and NJ and still won't fess up to personally killing the project. He's loud, he's crude, and he's vulgar.
The sad part is he won't get the nomination in 2016 not because of his terrible public persona or ineptitude as a governor but because he dared to support President Obama after cooperating with the White House on Hurricane Sandy emergency response and aid.

Posted: 5/7/13 at 10:51amThe story out this week is that net homeowner taxes have actually increased by 22% over the past three years under Christie. The Dems will be all over this one. Also this week, a new charter school reform bill that is gaining traction. It could derail his education agenda. His Democratic opponent is picking up steam, but she still has a long road ahead of her to win.

"A week or two ago, I went to a steakhouse and ordered a steak and ate about a third of it and I was full," he told the Post."
Should someone with weight issues even be going to a steakhouse at all? Without a sensible diet and exercise plan to go with the surgery, he won't be accomplishing much.

Posted: 5/7/13 at 11:07amThe steak thing got me, too. A steak at a steakhouse he would go to would mostly finish in the pan with the butter poaching and a sauce on top. Not weight loss friendly at all. Which is part of why the band doesn't work for everyone. The sleeve forces you to change your eating habits because that much fat will make you sick. The band lets you eat what you were eating before, just less of it, without repercussions.

These types of surgeries never seem to be permenant solutions if the patients don't deal with their psychological issues surrounding food and the way that they eat. I know at least 2 people that have had weight loss surgeries (gastric bypass) that had very successful weight losses in the first year afterward but eventually they managed to work their way back to their old eating habits and ended up reversing the effects of their surgeries. They went through all that pain and discomfort for nothing.

He has an approval rating of 63%. And he's currently leading his democratic opponent for governor by 30 points. I wouldn't vote for him either but in the world of politics that is soaring.

If he plans on running for President there are two rounds: First he has to win a Republican primary against true believers like Paul Ryan and REAL believers like Sarah Palin. Then, you need to shift gears and run against Hilary Clinton. Both John McCain and that last guy whose name escapes me proves how difficult that can be.
I do not think Christie can win a nationwide Republican primary. If he somehow could, then he'd be in Mitt territory, forced to denounce his own primary right-wing positions to try to appeal to the full country.

I think the difference between Christie and Romney (and McCain to some extent) is the media LOVES Christie. I agree the primary would be tough. But as much as I detest him I think he's smarter than Romney and wouldn't make the same mistakes.

Posted: 5/7/13 at 1:40pmI'd stop watching TODAY over that Christie's host gig, if I wasn't already not watching it because they let Sarah Palin host the show for a day, when I said I'd stop watching if I hadn't already stopped watching because they hired one of the Bush daughters as a correspondent, when I said I'd stop watching if I hadn't already stopped watching because the show sucks.
