#79re: Christan behavior?
Posted: 9/22/06 at 12:40pmI'm planning to convert, but only if I can be draped over the back of a couch instead.

Posted: 9/22/06 at 12:55pmI was taught that you are to love everyone as Jesus would have. Jesus spent time with lepers, the sick, befriended tax collectors which were hated and generally pretty nasty people, and any other group you can imagine that society as a whole frowned upon. He went against the current religious trends and instead of condeming people He spread love and kindness. To me that is what a Christian should do, that is what I try to do. I don't always suceed, but I try. People who say that they are Christians and protest funerals and condem people for their beliefs are not real Christians in my opinion. Christians are not to judge others, but it is human nature to do so. We have to try to look past our differences and see the good in people regardless of if they live their lives like we do. In my opinion that is how a Christian should behave and how I try to live my life.

And that is why you are just the sweetest lil' thing EVER!
I also hear that Christians are very, very big into sharing...
...so when do I get to borrow your husband?

Posted: 9/22/06 at 1:05pmLOL it depends on what you want to borrow him for. Now if you can get me orch seats and plane tickets to NYC to see Les Mis we might be able to arrange something.

Posted: 9/22/06 at 1:11pmAren't you afraid that if your husband comes over to "the other side", he won't return to the hetero life style? I always thought that was the reason so many heteros are afraid of gay marriage.

To bring a little seriousness back to the thread (although I've certainly been enjoying the shenanigans!):
My grandfather was what I consider to be the ideal Christian. He truly believed in his faith, and he lived a modest and humble life. He was a member of the YMCA and the local Sertoma. He never pushed his faith on others, and he never preached. He just lived his life and let others do likewise. He was truly a great man. I think he would be a little embarassed to have such praise heaped upon him, but it's the truth.
And he had a sense of humor about it too: He laughed very hard at the Simpsons episode where Rod and Todd are saying their prayers and one says "Thank you for sending Lisa to protect us from the bug you sent." He got a kick out of that.

"I think too many Christians believe that sex is 'only for the purpose of pro-creation.'"
I think they say it without ever thinking it through. Otherwise, they are also saying that couples who are physically unable to have children have to be celibate. And I sincerely doubt that is when they mean what they make the comment.
EDIT: Freakin' typo. Having a bad day...

Yeah, look at David and Jonathan, too.
It took David a few tries with multiple people before he could knock out Solomon and Absalom.

My serious note to add here is that these "Christians" do what they do because of a deep sense of loyalty to their culture. This loyalty is bred into them and reinforced with repetitive choruses and loud preaching/screaming. It is no wonder they are willing to risk pissing off people to say their peace. So, I never have a problem listening to a "Christian" claim whatever they wish to claim.
My problem is when everyone else confuses these people with a wonderful, loving tradition of faith that is here to inspire people to hope, and challenge them to do better and risk more.
How do you know a real Christian? The Bible says you will know them by their love. Anyone who claims you know them by their politics is selling something.

I thoroughly apologize for anything that anyone found hurtful and offensive. It was not my intent. Your responses have made me look at myself, though, and I see where I can change my views. Again, I'm sorry.
