Not that this is big news for many of us, but this is yet another gay Christian who is openly Christian and openly gay.
Yay!

Doesn't surprise me.
I could tell he was since his AI audition.
I thought he was already out?

Dear god. If you didn't know he was, you seriously need to check your gaydar.
OLD news.
Openly Christian? Who isn't Christian?

By the way - has anyone been watching "American Idol Rewind", where they splice in new interviews with the fromer AI contestants? All the boys who previously had to try and "butch it up" for the cameras are now flaming all over the place!
You people always miss the point. The point is NOT that you have such good gaydar that you guessed--or that you think the person in question is such a nelly queen that anyone could have guessed.
The point is that another person in the public eye had the courage to ACKNOWLEDGE a part of himself or herself when the Conventional Wisdom of our culture still says if you come out, you will end your career--particularly in this case, when his career was to have been music for unforgiving "Christians."
Rather than smugly say, "Oh I knew that--it was obvious," why not congratulate him on his courage?
Will this get a reponse for RTFan, Miss Freedom Of Speech Then Have Your Posts Deleted And PM's Blocked?
Can't wait.
because PJ, its hard to congratulate someone for revealing something that just about anyone who looks at them can already tell.
I commend him for his bravery, but wasn't there an openly gay season 1 contestant? I thought it was him... ?
No, that was Jim. I'm embarrassed that I know that.

Jim and RJ are both uber-sweet...and both of them are hot. There, I said it.
Verraros is actually making quite a name for himself as a club artist. Helton, I hope, will continue to make music.
most people in this country will assume, pretend, live in a denial that you are straight until you SAY THE WORDS.
so even though snickering queens everywhere knew nph or lance bass or rj helton or whoever was gay before they came out--flaming, gossip, or 'out in nyc' or otherwise, it's still a huge deal to be famous and put it on the record. it's a big deal for non-famous people to come out. to negate that bravery is childish and bitchy.
furthermore, rj is a Christian artist and thus his coming out is at a much greater risk, given that most Christians are not of the religious left viewpoint that you can be gay and Christian.

Joekv, i'd say two singles in the top 30 of the billboard dance music/club play chart is enough to warrant a qualified statement like "actually making quite a name for himself as a club artist." That's my criteria for making a name for oneself...would you say it meaant something like having a number one hit?
they are both working hard to carve out a place for themselves in this difficult, murky business.
