I think three months of it is reasonable.

*blink* Seriously? Don't get me wrong- I think some Christmas songs are lovely, but to listen to this (let's face it, often-saccharine) genre exclusively for months is just too much for me. I wouldn't want to listen to Chanukah songs for that long, either, and at least they can sometimes conceive of minor keys.
Maybe it's just me, but I can't keep up a cheery and celebratory air for more than a week or so. And I definitely don't want to hear about Rudolph on Yom Kippur. :)

I can't stand most of the new stuff. I prefer my classics, by classics--Bing Crosby, the Vince Guaraldi Trio, Peggy Lee...
That said, I have a secret love of "Last Christmas" by George Michael. And my Christmas guilty pleasure is "Mr. Hankey's Christmas Classics." It's sacreligious, it's crude, and I love it.

Has anyone heard the CD of Christmas Carols played on Rita Ford's Music Box collection? It's one of the most charming Christmas albums available. When my sister moved into her own place years ago she went crzy trying to find this recording on CD. I was able to buy her one from Footlight Records.
If you come across this one, by all means pick it up.

I've been dealing with Christmas music since this summer, picking out repertoire for my chorus and classes at school. The kids in chorus were surprised when I said "Today we're singing 'Christmas is Coming'"...but if you don't start now, they don't learn it by December.
Oh...and "Animals Christmas" is one of my favorite Christmas CDs....but my all time favorite is Michael W. Smith's "Christmas". I think "All is Well" has got to be one of the most perfect Christmas songs ever! Play it on Christmas Eve while driving home from services....really gets the message of Christmas home!

Posted: 10/10/05 at 9:22amI got my Christmas CDs out last week and actually almost started a thread here about it. I tend to decorate for Christmas at the last minute though. This year I'm going to try to do it earlier.

I already am, but that's for work. (I'm in a professional Dickensian caroling group. We go out in quartets, singing a capella, doing both traditionals and great jazz arrangements.)
For the record though, lots of Christmas songs are in minor keys. =)

So, here's the thing:
My partner and I have separated after many years. Am I (Jewish) still allowed to listen to Xmas music (he was Christian)? My shaygetz was always my cover story for the fact that I love the music and always had it playing throughout the holiday season.
I don't think I can make it without "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas".

bta, you could also celebrate Christmakuh but put an emphasis on the "makuh" part of it.

Screw it then...make your own holiday rules.
You can love the music without loving Christ.

As soon as it is remotely cold outside (which happens pretty early in MI, I might add) I am listening to christmas music.
And I'm jewish!!

Erika's husband might not take too kindly to that, Elphaba.
I think I am going to have to just order all of the Carols for a Cure CDs and be done with my Christmas music purchasing this year.

Good, there's a thread on Christmas music. That means it's okay to break out the Kenny and Dolly album!
It's been my favourite holiday recording for my entire life, I think.
