Hello fellow seniors on bww! Who else is dreading applying to college? Where is everyone looking? Are you only looking for schools for performance, or are you interested in other subjects as well?

I am!!! It's not so much the applications and such that i'm dreading, more the auditions =. I want to go to U of Michigan or Carnegie Mellon but I'm applying to tons more just in case. And I'm applying to Ithaca for music ed as a backup, in case I don't get into any of the schools, which would really suck.
Good luck to everyone on this ridiculously stressful year!

If I can say anything to seniors about college, it would be to start applying to schools RIGHT NOW! LIKE RIGHT NOW! The earlier, the better. Because if you're a procrastinator like me (which most teenagers are), you're gonna find yourself in a crapload of trouble if you don't make the time to take care of all that college stuff right now. Start writing essays now and make sure that they're good. (Cuz mine weren't. But that's because I didn't have any time to make them good because I was turning in applications at the very last minute.)

I just thought I would say that.

I'm not a senior, but I hope that all of the seniors read this and make use of it.

I completely agree, Marlene.

I'm currently *attempting* to write my common app essay...key word being attempting, whcih really means failing.

I really need to decide where to apply early, grr.

i'm only applying to nyu and cmu...and secretly to UM and CCM(as in not telling my mother i'm applying). if i don't get into any i'm spending the year in NYC taking voice lessons, then i will audition again the next year. woooooooooooooo
i hate writing essays...i wish we could just send in a video, instead of an essay- i can never express myself in writing. though i do have a good excuse= english is my second language.

I'm scared that I won't get into anywhere good and then will have to go to a local college (Even though I here they do have a great drama program...)

There is nothing wrong with local colleges! I am in an amazing department. The school is becoming accredited this year I believe. re: College time...for seniors

Wow. Those are all you're applying too? You may wanna have a backup. They're pretty much the top 4 musical theatre schools in the country, or among them. It's insane hard to get into. CMU takes like, 10-15 kids I think.

I will be applying at Otterbein College in Ohio for the musical theater program there, and have music education (to be a choir dierector) as a backup at the same school.

I also plan to apply to Anderson University in Indiana for another music degree for another backup.

And lastly, my father works at the University of Dayton here in Ohio and so I have to apply there to receive his benifits (which for me means NO TUITION!!!!)

jaesdare (and everyone!) --

i COMPLETELY agree with whatyouown. you really need to have a backup. even if you've done a lot of professional work, constantly been involved in your communtiy, have great grades, and are INCREDIBLY talented, it's still hard to get in. with the small number of students that these schools take (with the exception of NYU) i would HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend have AT LEAST one backup non-audition/BA Drama program. keep in mind that it is possible to transfer after your first year to another school.... though it is difficult. you cannot "count on" getting in ANYWHERE, seriously!!!

just my bit of advice.

Middlebury, UMich, Northwestern, UCLA, McGill, UWash...so far those are the 6 I'm definitely applying to. The most intense program I'm looking to apply to is UMich, other than that...the other programs are very solid, but not as rigorous as say CCM or CMU. Not musical theatre, btw.

I'm looking at schools which have good theater studies programs, especially ones where I can focus on theater history and theory...I'm not that into performance. I'm also looking at schools with good comp sci programs...my other majoy interest. I'm definitely applying to Northwestern, Wesleyan, Barnard, and University of Chicago. I also am looking into applying to either Columbia or UPenn early. Columbia is a *little* close to home, but I love it academically and socially and Penn has my ideal course of study, but I don't love it as much socially.

My sister went to columbia, and I've stayed overnight on campus numerous times...and I was not very fond of the social atmosphere. In addition, when I visited U of C, I felt it was monastically scholarly...a bit too intense for my liking. That's just my personal opinion, everybody's different.

I'm applying to:

Early Decision: NYU Tisch (CAP21, preferably)

Regular Decision:

Yale
Carnegie Mellon
UF
FSU

That's all I've got so far. Maybe University of Chicago, but I'm really counting on getting into NYU.

I already know where I'm applying and I already know that I'm not doing any sort of performance stuff. Ok, I take that back I could possibly minor in dance, but it's not likely. I'm majoring in Elementary Education and I'm applying to:

Knox College
Augustana University
Bradley University
Millikin University
Illinois State University and
Winona State University

If you never heard of these colleges it's probably because most of them are small. The first 5 are in Illinois and the last one is in Minnesota.

oh i know about all that backup stuff...i was originally gonna apply to 9 schools, but then my mother and i sat down and talked about it. then i talked to some people who know ALOT ALOT ALOT about everything musical theatre and they said my plan would work for me, and not many others. CMU takes 4 girls for musical theatre.
i have put alot of thought into my decision, and it works out. but i'm gonna audition again next year if i don't get in, after being in NYC for a year and taking voice lessons, auditioning, etc.,
