DENVER (June 15) - A 15-year-old girl can enter into a common-law marriage in Colorado, and younger girls and boys possibly can, too, a state appeals court ruled Thursday.

While the three-judge panel stopped short of setting a specific minimum age for such marriages, it said they could be legal for girls at 12 and boys at 14 under English common law, which Colorado recognizes.

I think this is fabulous! Anyone who is stupid enough to actually, willingly throws her life away - deserves to be hooked up with another loser of equal disapointment. That way they have each other to make miserable until the realize they have missed out on so much that they start cheating on each other, and end up in divorce court with a trail of bastard children to sort out. Marrying at 15 is just a cheap ploy to get diamonds. You're a lot more likely to make it to your 75th anniversary without one of you croaking if you'll only be a nonagenarian.

I don't even think it's a good idea for anyone under 30 to get married. I can't imagine a freshman in high school talking about her husband in the cafeteria. It's incomprehensible.

well, the case in question was based on the four year relationship of a 38 year old man and an 18 year old girl...that began when he was 34 and she was 14. the court's deference to english common law however opens the possibility that girls could wed at 12 and boys at 14.

Um...I hate to make Colorado look worse than it already does, but this law also includs a loophole that would let girls marry at the age of 12. I am not at all happy to be a Coloradan right now...
