Gloppy and carby. Basically any meal that can be built around mashed potatoes is perfect. Alternately, chicken and dumplings (with the doughy dumplings, not the slimy ones) is probably ideal.
Plus, any early childhood stuff. Peanut butter and jelly, grilled cheese, Lipton noodle soup, welfare food (ramen, box mac and cheese).
I think sickness and depression must take away my will to heartily masticate.

Mashed potatoes are indeed an ideal comfort food. Give me a good shepherd's pie any day.
I think most comfort foods are going to tend to be carb heavy, especially since these days carbs are so "bad" for you.
Thanksgiving leftovers, all mixed up into one bowl. Sometimes I think I look forward to the leftovers these days than I do the actual meal itself.

My mom's homemade beef stew, chicken and dumplings and chicken pot pie.
The woman's an artist, what can I say.
