Animal #11:

The Numbat.

Primarily from Western Australia, along with the Echidna, this animal survives on a diet of mainly ants. It is similar to the Echidna and Anteaters in that is uses its long tongue to quickly catch ants, and it can eat of 20,000,000 ants in a single day...

Due to habitat degradation and feral animals, like cats, foxes and wild dogs, the Numbat is becoming increasingly endangered.

When I was in Sydney we went to the Toranga Park Zoo and the Tazmanian Devil was taking a nap.

I've been to Taronga Zoo many times. I think it's one of the best zoos in the world, with one of the best locations/views...

We sailed to it and of course the Sydney Opera House is one of the most spectacular theatres of the world.

Gaytime ice cream was good too!

Animal #12:

Tasmanian Tiger or Thylacine.

Tragically this animal no longer exists, due to hunting.

This WAS Australia's largest land based carnivore, living in Tasmania. Unfortunately, they had a penchant for sheep, causing the ire of many a farmer. There was soon a bounty on their head, and they were systematically hunted down until there were no more...

It was a fascinating animal. A marsupial dog, with stripes like a tiger. There are rumours that they still live somewhere in the wild, and we can only hope...

You know I did!
I actually took class with Sydney Dance Company every day for two weeks. Paul Mercurio had blond hair because of Death in Venice. Oh I had to go to class every day!

I need to, also... My one and only visit was for the Olympics. I want to go back and spend some real time there.

G'day mate! I'm Syd, (short for Sydney) and I'm a PLATYPUS. That's me on the left!

Meet my friends Olly and Millie.

Olly, a KOOKABURRA bird, in the middle, was named after the Olympic Games.

Millie, an ECHIDNA on the right, was named after the Millennium.

re: Common Misconceptions...

This is a great thread - so educational, too.

I am HIGHLY disappointed that I cannot ride in a kangaroo's pouch.

Now, on the venison topic - Venison is one of those meats that are very lean and rough to chew. But if cooked well, it ain't too bad! My mom had kosher venison delivered to our house a couple years ago. We had pounds and pounds.

I prefer chicken.
