Animal #13:

The Dingo

The Dingo is Australia's largest Carnivore, and is currently suffering from rather bad press. Ever since Lindy Chamberlain, mother of baby Azaria, appeared on international television crying "a dingo ate my baby" there has been problems for it. (btw, Lindy Chamberlain WAS imprisoned for murder, but was later acquitted, as she should have been).

The only pure blood population of Dingoes in the world live on the World's Largest Sand Island, Fraser Island. However, everytime someone is bitten here (and it's a popular tourist spot) the entire PACK is hunted and culled. Unfortunately, this is continuing, as people insist on feeding the dingoes. The dingoes have become dependant on being handfed, and will become aggressive if not given food.

Another major problem plaguing dingoes are the wild dos in Australia. The dingoes freely breed with them, and this dilutes the purity of their ancestry...

Remember Carol Burnett on The Gomer Pyle Show?
She sang the Kookaburra song in round form.

Ugh, I hate possums, they climb all over the roof and make lots of noise. They used to scare me.

And we used to sing the kookaburra song too!
J'ai compris tous les mots, j'ai bien compris, merci.............

re: Common Misconceptions...

It's interesting to read that the Kangaroo is also found in Papua New Guinea. I studied the Asmat tribe of Western Papua New Guinea and for some reason can't imagine kangaroos there. I wonder if they actually are found in the western part.

Aww, that's adorable. I didn't read the date on the post and nearly had a heart attack when I saw that ConvinceMe2 had posted.
I have NEVER met Cheyenne Jackson. I have never hung out with him in his dressing room, he did not tweet me, he never bought me a beverage, and he mostly certainly didn't tickle me. . .that is all.

An Asmat tribesman.

Thanks for the pic of the kangaroo-very different from the gray-not only in appearance, but it lives in trees.

re: Common Misconceptions...

My dad lived in Papua New Guinea for nearly a decade, and my grandfather fought there in WWII, so I've seen many collections of artefacts...A fascinating culture...or many fascinating cultures!

And Jane, according to Wiki, there are 13 types of Tree Kangaroo, limited to North Queensland and Papua New Guinea. They're REALLY cute, and as nimble in the trees as a possum, and better (faster) climbers than koalas!

re: Common Misconceptions...

they ARE adorable! Good thing the Asmats are human headhunters!
