Anyone plan on watching it? I won't be able to but my mother is taping it.
Also, does anyone know if it will be available on iTunes after?

Posted: 6/30/07 at 11:33amWHY is Fergie performing? No, not Diana's former sister in law. I have a feeling I have to hear "Big Girls Don't Cry" which makes me sad. Which of the princes is hoping for some Fergalicious lovin?

Posted: 6/30/07 at 11:57amThat's the first thing I thought too, JG2. Why are Fergie and Kanye west performing? They weren't even making music when Diana was alive. It doesn't make sense to have them in a concert in her memory when she probably wouldn't even have liked them.

The Princes said that they wanted music that she liked (Duran Duran, Elton John) and music from today that draws in a big audience of people, I think because their mother was always modernizing, and this was a way of modernizing the concert, so to speak.
But yeah..Fergie..eh..mhm..blah.
But I REALLY like Natasha Bedingfield. I'm not into pop music generally, but I love her.

Broadway composers Andrew Lloyd Webber and Elton John perform at the "Concert for Diana" July 1 in London's new Wembley Stadium.
Prince William and Prince Harry commemorate what would have been their mother's 46th birthday ten years after her tragic death "with an event to celebrate her life."
Lloyd Webber, according to concert materials, will present "a set of his classic songs" with scheduled performers in his section to include Anastacia, Andrea Bocelli, SARAH BRIGHTMAN!!!, Jason Donovan, Connie Fisher, Josh Groban, Andrea Ross and Donny Osmond as well as the winner of BBC's "Any Dream Will Do" competition and forthcoming Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat star Lee Mead.

well, I'm not a Fergie fan either......frankly I wish the reason for this concert didn't exist. I've always wondered what amazing things she would have accomplished had she lived.

And that would be...?

a celebration of Dianas life, and her love of music......and of course that would include music they like......(was that not obvious from the ton of newspaper articles, and the interview with Matt Lauer, johnboy?)
If people do not like who's performing, then they have the option of not going, or not turning on the TV.
This is not rocket science

Fergie dedicated her latest single Big Girls Don't Cry to Diana. Ugh. Yeah, that's appropriate.

True dat Elphaba.
The concert is going really well I think.
Orangeskittles - at least there wasn't any crude, lewd movements to "Drop it Like It's Hawt". Oh wait...there was..also..probably not appropriate..but hey. It's all going well.

Posted: 7/1/07 at 2:14pmI just started watching it. Happily, I can cut through anything I don't want to see. I will never forget the night Diana died. I was waiting to watch the Spice Girls on SNL when the news broke in.

Have you actually listened to the lyrics of Big Girls Don't Cry? There's a difference between a song that's of a different genre that you personally don't like and dedicating this to Diana:
And I'm gonna miss you like a child misses their blanket
But I've got to get a move on with my life
It's time to be a big girl now
and Big girls don't cry
Considering William and Harry have long been criticized for moving on too fast from her death and showing no emotion in traditional British royal "stiff upper lip" style.
It came across as really insincere, as if she felt she had to say something about Diana and this song was only slightly less inappropriate than Glamorous for a memoriam dedication.

No I agree. I don't think she really thought people would think the way you and I are when she said "I dedicate this one to Diana" though. I don't think the Princes had much with her saying "I dedicate this to Diana". Mind you, I think they helped choose the songs but that was Fergie's call.
I was 5 when Diana died, but I remember my neighbor was crying and she told me to never forget that day. I had NO idea what was going on.
That video of her with the blind people was great.
These make me sad. But the performances are going well.

Posted: 7/1/07 at 2:35pmMaybe she meant it to sound as though it was coming from Diana when she felt the need to move on from her "life" with Charles? Regardless, it's a horrendous song. The lyrics are just awful.

I had to laugh when she sang that song because my cousin was with me and said "See - I told you she was a singer!"
For the first time though, I really liked Nelly Furtado.
