i remember @ the time of Diana's passing i was obsessed with Yoko Ono's song COFFIN CAR...it still makes me think of Diana & the lyrics are actually appropriate (i dont mean that in the cruel way)
i think i'll listen to it now.

Clearly.
How is Sarah Brightman approaching her notes? She's making me laugh. That's so mean.

To all those ragging on Fergie, I would like you all to note my signature...and be ashamed of yourselves.
I know the edited version airs tonight on NBC after a repeat of the Matt Lauer interview with the princes.
mateo, I shouldn't be thinking this either, but those princes are damn hot.

Gary Barlow is the hottest of them all, no contest.
Sarah is perfection, she is the definition of a diva, Andrew's medley was fabulous, I didn't like Andrea Boccelli's number though.

I loved the Joseph medley, I couldn't even recognize Jason Donovan, he will always be the best Joseph!
Was the guy wearing the multicolor coat the winner of the reality show? He's a cutie.

I really do wish Diddy would just shut up and sing.

Nick,
Lee Meade was the guy onstage, the winner of the Joseph reality show. He is definitely a cutie. I love the curls.

Posted: 7/1/07 at 4:41pmI have had it on all day while working around the apt. So far, I have enjoyed Rod Stewart the most. Some of these performers live are not that great. Fergie used a voice track for glamorous for the most part.

I wish he weren't there at all!
And he cannot sing!
Lee is a hottie, thanks for the info.

Elton John has performed my two favorite songs of his now, so I'm happy.

I thought Diddy was great. I came in the middle of his performance because I took the opportunity for a bathroom break during his set. I am not a fan at all, but I think that he really put some thought into directing his performance to honoring Diana. Yes, perhaps he could have made it a bit more delicate in his shout outs, but I thought it was moving.
As for Diana's choice in musicals, you have to remember that Les Mis and Webber musicals were all the rage at the time. Plus, Webber is a Brit.
Loved all the videos and insight into this woman's life. Overall, I thought the concert was lovely.

I'm aware what was popular during the time frame. Legally Blonde is popular now, but that doesn't make it a good show or exempt its fanbase from criticism.
I didn't realize I was hoping for Candle in the Wind until he didn't play it. I understand he has reasons, but you'd think he could have made an exception for an event like this.

If I thought I heard the VH1 folks correctly, I thought Elton was going to do it...I just guessed that when the show had to be done by 10:30 GMT, they cut it because of the tech delays. But I might be wrong, as the VH1 folks weren't making much sense the whole day.

Vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra
Salve, Salve Regina
Ad te clamamus exsules filii Eva
Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes

Posted: 7/1/07 at 6:54pmIt was rumored the princes asked him to perform it, but he's always been reluctant to. Too bad, it would have made a beautiful finale for this occasion.

This is total speculation on my part, but I have the impression he was thinking about doing it up until the last moment. I think he was telling the band to play Are You Ready for Love at the end, something they would normally be expected to know ahead of time. Maybe he didn't feel he could handle it, or maybe he felt it would end on the evening on too down a note.
By the way, there's an interesting story behind the creation of Diana's version of the song. Elton discovered that people had been playing the original Candle in the Wind as a commemoration of her, and suggested to his lyricist Bernie Taupin that they write a song in a similar vein for him to sing at her funeral. Bernie misunderstood and instead rewrote the Candle lyrics. Time was very tight, so they obviously didn't have time to go back to plan A.

Posted: 7/1/07 at 7:43pmI only got to see Joss Stone, who was great. I didn't get to see anything else. And Fergie has an AMAZING voice. It's her music I'm not crazy about.
