She got a terrific write up by Stephen Holden in the Times for her current show at Joe's Pub. The song choices and texting scenes described in the review had me cracking up. I think she's a terrific example of a woman doing her own thing, always growing and evolving with the times, and being exactly who she is. It's clear she'd rather be nine people's favorite thing instead of 100 people's ninth favorite thing.
Mellower? Maybe, but the Barbs Still Sting
Good for her, I like Sandra. In real life too.

I love the evolution away from meanness. Otherwise, one ends up with a dried apple core where one's heart ought to be. (Like you-know-who, Melissa's mother.)
I agree 1,000%, Namo.
I love the way David Rakoff expressed it, as referenced in the NYT appreciation--"As fun and Margo Channing as it might seem to be drunk and witty and cutting, it’s probably better in the long run to be kind."
Yay, Sandra!
A kind Sandra is a boring Sandra.

I saw her last year and she was definitely not boring.
She was an absolute sweetheart when I met her and her girlfriend in London. I wasn't keen on her during the angry years, but always respected and admired her and later really grew to love her work and personality.

Thank you for sharing such a great quote. I miss Rakoff.
