Congress has reached an agreement on the bailout
#25re: They've reached an agreement
Posted: 9/25/08 at 6:59pmSo, let me see if I have this straight. The leaders of both parties declare they have an agreement in principle, but then McCain interjects presidential politics into the equation, and now there's no consensus about the agreement?

Since there is no deal, the originator of this post should, if she hasn't already, cut and run.
There is no deal. Looks like Barry and Shelley can't get this one done either.

So there was a deal until McSame got involved?
I fail to see this new development helps him any more than the initial plan to suspend the campaign.

Just read 2 articles about why this happened - none covered in the press - they are quite intersting as to whos to blame.
I know if it is not GWB, no one on this board would be interested.

OH shut up and go vote roxy.
How many times do you have to be told that your opinion on political events is worth two squats by rhesus monkey as long as you don't vote, and can't buy a decent pair of shoes.

The point, lost on some of the "intellectuals," was the total inaccuracy of this post at the time it was posted and now-8:00pm central time.
I think she chose the usual "cut and run" strategy to avoid the facts.

President Carter (at the time a sitting president) decided not to go on the road to campaign during the Iranian hostage crisis (And Reagan excoriated him for it) but was still able to attend the presidential debates.
Yeah, and Reagan sold weapons to terrorists to win the election. Maybe Obama should try that.

Hey OS...time to cut and run! you need to check your facts!
There was only one Reagan/Carter debate the week before the election.
The American people are the ones who laughed at Carter. Have you see the results of that election?
#33re: They've reached an agreement
Posted: 9/25/08 at 9:36pmAll I said was Reagan sold weapons to terrorists. Which he did. Case closed, dear.

"""but was still able to attend the presidential debates"""
The above statement did not pass muster at Fact Checkers.
Sorry, bud. Time for you to cut and run.

Exactly! Mamie laid her post, and then she cut and ran!
She believed democrat propaganda earlier today, and now she and they are humiliated.
Not such a good thing on the eve of a debate.

#40No agreement due to House GOP
Posted: 9/25/08 at 11:17pmApparently the House GOP is saying no to Bush and to McCain. Who know where this will go next. I laughed that the Dow was up today, the morning after Bush finally was on national television address announcing a crisis.

There was a deal in principle, and McCain with a group of House Minority members, torpedoed the proposal.
They want less regulation, and more tax breaks for the rich.
McCain has politicized the process. He cares more about the election then preventing an economic meltdown.
Edit: And WaMu just failed, while McCain fiddled.

But JPMorgan picked up WaMu on the cheap so customers should be ok.
This entire fiasco is really depressing. No bailout really wouldn't sink the economy like the fearmongers are saying but it sure would hurt their buddies so they lie and weasel to get their way.
McCain will not succeed playing these games but Bush cannot be gone soon enough.
When I think of all the jobs that have disappeared over these last eight years, and the wage stagnation or reduction that's occurred in those still existing I want to cry. So many people have been hurt, lost their healthcare, lost their homes, while the corporate pigs partied up in their shiny glass towers.

"Reliving the Carter/Mondale years?"
Funny, despite the economic hardships that the Carter/Mondale years held, I don't recall Treasury Secretaries Blumenthal or Miller having to go to Congress begging for a 700 Billion dollar handout to keep the economy afloat.
That will be part of the legacy of the Bush/Cheney years.

Since this is a theater board, I'll make the analogy to a show -- sometimes I feel like Aldonza questioning Sancho when I talk to Republicans: "But what have you gotten?" "Ooooh, well already I've gotten...I've gotten..." "You've gotten NOTHING. Why do you do it?"
It simply amazes me that people can still defend the Republican party with just one fiasco after the other.
#48No agreement due to House GOP
Posted: 9/26/08 at 12:39pmCan someone explain to me, why, if Bush is eager to sign, and the Democrats have a majority, there isn't an agreement? What does the House GOP have to do with anything? Why do the Dems care that the Republicans aren't on board?

It's called C.Y.A.!
If the Dem's ship goes down, they're taking a bunch of Repubs with them. They're keen to get Dubya to round up support for the measure under his own tent. All 435 seats of the House are up for election a lil' more than a month from now.
