I just decided to make this its own thread...
My Gateway Tablet PC was just stolen (car break-in). I've never used a Mac on a regular basis, but I like the look of them and admire Apple as a company.
On trying one out, I didn't find it to be much different than a PC in the long run--there's just a different way to do everything.
Here's my challenge:
*******SOMEONE CONVINCE ME I WANT TO PURCHASE A MAC*******
I THINK i'd like one, I just have no really good reason to not stick with PC when so many more people use them...if I found some really good reasons why Macs are better, I might be brave enough to make the switch, but right now, I'm too scared :P
Also, I want a 12 inch something--the MacBook Pro or whatever looks pretty cool, but will there be a 12 inch version?

Convince Me Too
I just did it. I had Dells for 6 years and got fed up. I just got the brand new iMac . 20 inch monitor, pentium. It's gorgeous. there's very little to get used to. It's much easier than using a PC. I'm glad I got it.
I was told by someone when I asked this in December (MatthewAddison, I think):
"Get a Mac. You will be happy. You will never frown again."
It's not QUITE true, but since I've made the switch, I've never frowned as a result of computer programs. Seriously, make the switch. It is beyond easy, and most of the things that you would think would be adjustment problems really aren't. Macs actually seem more user-friendly than PCs. I have a 15" PowerBook and I'm very happy with it, but I'm not sure about other models.

I guess my thinking is that my PC that was stolen never really gave me problems or anything, so why switch? I think I'm a sucker for Apple's style...is there anything specific you missed from your Windows?
I think that most people who switch will miss the blue screen of death, constant crashes, a new virus every other day etc.
Umm... honestly, the only thing that I miss from Windows is Minesweeper, which was always my time-killing thing when I was stalling on work. Otherwise, no... I don't miss very much at all. The Mac versions of some programs aren't very well designed (e.g. AIM) and crash too frequently, but that's my fault for not having learned iChat yet. And if one program stalls or crashes, your entire system won't freeze--which is fantastic.
I didn't read what other people wrote, but I like my macs because they work.
"Umm... honestly, the only thing that I miss from Windows is Minesweeper"
Then why not just get it for your mac?
Mac Minesweeper
I KNEW that someone was going to say that. I figured there had to be a version, I just hadn't bothered to search for it yet (because honestly, I spent way too much time playing it). Thanks! Updated On: 2/26/06 at 01:47 AM
And there are other Minesweeper games, plus other games, at the link below:

I'm assuming you can still run MSN Messenger on Macs?
What about Microsoft Word or an equivalent program - is it much different?
I've used Word on both a PC and a Mac. Very little difference.
Been a Mac user since 1989. Not sure where to start convincing anyone, other than DOOO IT.
Yall need to quit freakin all the time.

Who's freakin?
Do it.
Sweetestsiren, My aim has never crashed once.
iChat on a mac is a joy and yes, you can still get msn and yahoo messenger for macs, though they're not quite as special as the versions for PC.
Adium's even better!

A bunch of guys broke into our office several years ago. They broke the glass door, took all the PC laptops they could get (we saw it on the security cameras), and left all the mac powerbooks behind. There you go.
Seriously, though: it's easy to use, you don't worry as much about viruses, it looks beautiful. With OS X, it has also become very stable. Maintenance is really easy.
sweetestsiren - you don't need to "learn" iChat. Just open it up and start!

I like that you don't need to install an antivirus program with a Mac. The Norton I had on my Dell was what was causing most of the trouble.
Ok, yes, this is a joke, but it gets the point across nicely. :) Get a Mac - they're fun and easy and pretty stress free. I've had this one since August and its never crashed.
GM vs Microsoft - Round 1
At a recent computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated: “If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving twenty-five dollar cars that got 1000 miles to the gallon.”
In response to Bill’s comments, General Motors issued a press release stating (by Mr. Welch himself): If GM had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics:
1. For no reason whatsoever your car would crash twice a day.
2. Every time they repainted the lines on the road you would have to buy a new car.
3. Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason. You would just accept this, restart and drive on.
4. Occasionally executing a maneuver such as a left turn would cause your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you would have to reinstall the engine.
5. Only one person at a time could use the car unless you bought “Car95” or ”CarNT.” But then you would have to buy more seats.
6. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, reliable, five times as fast, and twice as easy to drive, but would only run on five percent of the roads.
7. The oil, water temperature and alternator warning lights would be replaced by a single “general car default” warning light.
8. New seats would force everyone to have the same size butt.
9. The airbag system would say “Are you sure?” before going off.
10. Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key, and grabbed hold of the radio antenna.
11. GM would require all car buyers to also purchase a deluxe set of Rand McNally road maps (now a GM subsidiary) even though they neither need them nor want them. Attempting to delete this option would immediately cause the car’s performance to diminish by 50% or more. Moreover, GM would become a
target for investigation by the Justice Department.
12. Every time GM introduced a new model, car buyers would have to learn how to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car.
13. You’d press the “start” button to shut off the engine.
Sweetestsiren, My aim has never crashed once.
Wow, seriously? That's the only routine problem that I've had (and other Mac users complain about pretty frequently).
you don't need to "learn" iChat. Just open it up and start!
But, but... there are the speech bubble things! And pictures instead of names... and... yeah, I just haven't gone through and changed the settings. Maybe I'll make that my project for the day.
You can turn the bubbles off and whatnot. Just mess with the preferences.
Buy a Mac!
