PI, directed by Darren Aronofsky.

A lot of the ones mentioned have kind of creeped me out, or made me think, "ew...I'm glad this is a movie..." but seriously the creepiest movie I have ever seen that really messed with my head and made me question humanity and morals and psychology and everything I have ever known was:
MAY. CREEPIEST MOVIE EVER.

it's hard to say... i like "creepy" movies, and to say it's "creepy" almost sounds negative.
trying not to combine "creepy" and "horror", because to me, horror means like ghosts, and hauntings, i'd have to say one hour photo.
not to say i liked the movie though... the idea of someone working at a photo place and obsessing over a family so much that he thinks, or wishes, he was part of it, and them goes to find them is very creepy because it can happen, but i was not impressed by the movie. i thought it was creepy, but not scary.
has anyone seen the mini-movie on the ring 2 dvd called "rings?" i loved it. it was chilling, but i don't know if i'd call it creepy.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (the Gene Wilder one - I haven't even seen the Depp/Burton version)
Maybe as a diminuitive heifer, this story hits too close to home on more than one level. Falling into a chocolate river? Turning into a blueberry? (It's an actual phobia or mine.) And worse, those Oompa Loompas! Little orange men. My God. Midgets terrify me, and so does the idea of having to be rolled out of a building.
That is my hell.

I Hour Photo.
And, I may get scorned for this, but 'Hide and Seek.' It wasn't like a 'conventional' horror movie, like, with gore, or anything, but the acting was superb, and the last scene, even if it was just to be able to fit in a sequel, gave me the chills. The whole premise of the movie, actually, did that. Even if schizophrenia doesn't work like that *at all*.

Jersey Girl-did you ever see Lynch's ERASERHEAD? one of his first-before he went mainstream. That is my idea of the creepiest movie ever. However, you can't stop watching it. You're sitting there going eeeewwwwwwww, this is fabulous!
Tiff-I agree with Willy Wonka. For me, all the characters were weird looking but not in a charming way. Even the little boy (he reminded me of a small old man) I didn't find cute or endearing at all. And the ooomp looompas-what was that??? And the other little children were so obnoxious! I could never understand the cult following of that film.

Posted: 1/15/06 at 5:20pmMe neither. I thought it was just a childhood fear but I tried watching it last year and I had to shut it off. I'm glad all those little obnoxious hedonists got their due though. I'd rather watch Saw at a buffet dinner than go through that again.

Oh God, I must agree with Birth. The entire movie had a creep factor that made you think, "This is just wrong...but if he really..." But then in the end I was forced to rethink the whole movie and realize that it is even MORE creepy than I was thinking. gah.

Gotta agree with Jane2. Eraserhead has to be one of the creepiest films of all time. I often wonder what Lynch was on when he was making it.

Jane2... I've seen it many times. I'm somewhat embarrassed to say that I've lost count. Have it on DVD. Laserdisc and VHS, before that. I watch it every couple of years. I think it's the closest that anyone has ever come to capturing a hallucinatory nightmare on film. It's actually quite brilliant. Warped, but brilliant.
#45re: Creepiest Movie Ever?
Posted: 1/15/06 at 6:06pmI'm glad to hear it's on dvd. My next purchase. Did you ever notice that in the background, during the entire film there's the sound of machinery, a chugging, almost a breathing rhythm? That same sound is heard in some of his other films, but I can't remember which. Anyway, I'm glad you know the film.

Yes. It was just released (wide) on DVD last week, I believe. Before that, it was not being sold in stores. It was only available for purchase directly through his website (which is a trip, by the way). I've had my copy for about three years. From what I understand, the print that was just released to stores is identical to the one being offered through his site. Although, the packaging is different. It was completely re-mastered and cleaned up. It looks and sounds great (for a low-budget movie made some 30 years ago). Now... if they would just release a decent version of LOST HIGHWAY. There are only two versions currently available. The one I have, a very poor pan-and-scan Canadian version, and a German version, in widescreen, but with an out-of-sync soundtrack.

The movie HAPPINESS was pretty creepy too. It was a movie that you would laugh at but then feel really creepy about finding anything funny about it.
Still love Eraserhead too!
