A Twitter trending topic from last night and today: in an attempt to show the levels of racial bias in law enforcement in the wake of the Garner decision, white people are "confessing" to crimes they committed and got away with using the hashtag #CrimingWhileWhite. Some really interesting social commentary happening here (including some commentators calling into question whether the hashtag promotes a myth of African American criminality). Anyway, read and see for yourself.

I think it's well-intentioned but misguided. The focus of racial conversation doesn't need to be on the white experience, but the black. I like the #LivingWhileBlack response though.

This hashtag is totally idiotic. We know that simply by being white you have a better chance of not getting arrested for a crime. And, the sad part is that the playing field is far from even. That's the problem. It's as if the people posting are now expecting the cops to read this and come and arrest them too.
