Crystal Meth -- Is it really surprising?

Posted: 6/22/05 at 12:03pmI just want to add (because I'm afraid that's what might be implied in my posts) that I now have a wonderful relationship with my parents. They made their mistakes, but believe me, they did A LOT right. I am a pretty decent human being, I like who I am, and they made me who I am. The good and the bad.

And believe me, rl, I'm not saying this to be homocentric, though goddess knows I inherently am.
But really, gay men ARE the pioneers in searching for and finding The Greatest Orgasm.
Here's another way I look at it. Some people in our culture are risk averse. Some people are not. In our culture, we give a good amount of attention to "EXTREME" sports enthusiasts. They do things that are on the face of them, well, crazy. But give it the right NuMetal soundtrack, digital jump cut editing, and a lot of testosterone drenched "WOOOOOOOOOO!" when you successfully ride your mountain bike off the side of a cliff and live to tell about it, and you've got something that the culture tacitly encourages or at least begrudgingly admires.
What gay men know about sex fills many, many books. And THAT has benefited the culture at large in immeasurable ways.

Just read an interesting article in the Village Voice regarding this issue. No answers, of course, but interesting to the discussion. I must say that I support the notion of support groups for those who currently do not partake in the dangers of crystal. Having been a part of a discussion group regarding safer sex and remaining negative, I found the information and tools I learned to be incredibly valuable. If I were more community minded, I'd start a little group called NO METH, NO FUSS.

Posted: 6/22/05 at 1:05pmAlthough lithping does give pleasure, I am not sure it causes QUITE the release of dopamine that crystal does. It might not work as a subsitute high, is what I am saying.

Robbie, I had a retail manager when I was working back in college, as luck would have it she worked with a LOT of gay men. Myself included.
During particularly lispy interludes, she would announce, "Snakes! I hear SNAKES in this room!"
