Cyndi Lauper announced on the Ellen show today that she will be releasing a new album titled "Memphis Blues" on June 22nd (her birthday). Looking forward to hearing new things from her! :)

Oh no. "Memphis Blues." Up next: "Cyndi Sings The Great American Songbook". Coming to an NPR near you.

Cyndi Lauper could release Mary Had A Little Lamb and you know it would still be brilliant!
I love Cyndi, but that last dance thing she released was just god-awful.

Wasn't my cup of tea, but it had some decent songs on it. It's cool that she is covering so many different genres--she's a truly diverse artist.
"Memphis Blues is a disappointment because it doesn't play to Lauper's considerable strengths. She remains a vocalist of phenomenal depth and power, but she sounds lost in this material and in these arrangements. Her out-of-control, sloppy performance of "Just Your Fool" on the finale of Celebrity Apprentice was an unfortunate harbinger. Lauper has deserved a mainstream comeback for some time now, but Memphis Blues is unlikely to be the album to make that happen."

I adore Cyn and have no desire to pigeon-hole her, but I don't care for Memphis Blues and I've listened several times. I also hated Brink Ya To the Brink, except for Into The Night.
It just doesn't resonate for me at all, but I love that she is experimenting in new realms.

Can she please just release another rock album? She needs to show off her voice while she still has it! I haven't downloaded the album yet and I'm not really in any hurry to either... :-/
