It will be set in the eighties instead of the sixties, Johnny will be black, Baby will still be Jewish but played by a porny-looking WASP...oh, and it will be in 3-D and have Avril Lavigne on the soundtrack.

And to make sure it's PC, Baby's parents will be played by Whitney Houston and Jason Alexander and Lisa will be played by Lea Salonga. Also, Johnny will now be Joni, a young woman questioning her sexuality.

As long as they promise to remove all the charm that made the original a classic, then I'm on board. Hopefully, it will look like a long hip-hop music video with only the barest semblence of story in order to retain the title. Trendy stars with no staying power are really the way to go when casting. And if it's not in 3D, then they shouldn't even bother.

Boy, you guys really know your Dirty Dancing! I saw it when it was released but don't remember it being so special that I'd know every inch of it by heart. But now that Jordan thinks of it in the same breath as Gone With the Wind, I guess I better take another look.

What exactly was the end of innocence landmark of the 80s? The original had the lead up to the JFK assassination, but what for the 80s. I doubt the AIDS crisis, a legitimate loss of innocence moment, will be dealt with (though it could be a substitution for the pregnancy/abortion sub-plot) as the watershed moment. Reagan getting shot? The Who Shot JR reveal episode?

The movie was fun with a great soundtrack. It will be like remaking Saturday Night Fever. The film ain't perfect but it does encapsulate an era, even if it took place in 60s. I know some of the love it gets k ow is nostalgia/post-modern ironic love but I know a lot of people not even born in the 80s love it. Honestly, could there be a guy in Hollywood today who broke out like Patrick Swayze did? A masculine guy who could dance with people who wanted him or wanted to be him (albeit the latter is more from the Road House and Point Break filmography than Dirty Dancing) with nobody questioning his sexuality.

When I saw DD during its original release, I thought it was one of the worst films I had ever seen. However, I have no doubt the remake will be worse.
