Addison, I think James is closeted one. Not sure who he is in love with but all the flirting with girls and the things he said on his interview with Carson about his former employer (and conveniently she is out of the country...) and I won't be surprised neither if O'Brien would munch carpet...
Mrs. Hughes is marvelous.
I'd like to see O'Brien pay for her misdeeds. Just as I still would like to see Thomas pay for having caused his own injury to get out of battle... but, I think that too much time has passed.
Still, seeing him really suffer was more heart-wrenching than I expected it to be.
I am reminded with each episode as to how much I love this show! Can't believe the season finale is next week.
Whatever will we do?... It's such a joy.
Class trip to Highclere Castle! There are still a few days open in July, August and September. The Spring is booked solid.
I have to be honest - that's a fabulous idea!
Girly can start paddling today.
It's under $30k to get married there......
They begin filming season 4 this month and the rumors have already begun. Beware before clicking on link. May be considered spoiler heavy.

Oh, and one of Maggie's BEST LINES:
".....Or Cora could go to New York to see THAT WOMAN"
I love the idea of a class trip!
So after all that hoopla and press.. Shirley Maclaine was only in that one episode?

It was two episodes when it aired in the UK, but I think both aired the same night in the US.
She didn't seem to add much to the general atmosphere. The idea of Shirley MacLaine on Downtown Abbey was much better than the actuall thing.
I feel cheated. They did so much press touting her.

It was kind of like Chris Meloni on True Blood. On paper, it seemed like a can't miss, but he was so misused on that. Same with Shirley and this. Maybe next season they'll have figured out what to do with her.
I also found the fault lay somewhat with Ms. MacLaine.
For all that we anticipated a Clash of the Titans between the Dowager Duchess and her American counterpart, Dame Maggie wiped the floor with her. Shirley seemed out-matched and out-gunned.
That a descendant of the House of York could not differentiate between God's own county and Wessex.
Richard III would turn in his grave.
If he had one.
I also felt that Shirley wasn't quite right for this show. I thought she was trying her best to play the character, but for me she was standing out like a sore thumb.

I blame Shirley's mediocre performance on poor writing. Julian Fellowes didn't think through the character. The audience clearly wanted sizzling scenes between Maggie Smith and Shirley but Fellowes didn't want to overshadow Maggie Smith and therefore didn't give Shirley's character any meat.
I think he should have made Cora's mother a tough Jewish woman. Along the lines of the mother in Fiddler on the Roof. She would come into the gilded environment and the humor would come out of British manners vs American chutzpah.
I don't feel the character was on long enough for me to feel one way or the other. The way they advertised her appearance they made it sound like she would be on all season.
I knew what was coming but still... damn
Yeah. Now another 10 months till season 4.
They gave it away so I was prepared.
