I saw it coming a mile away and it was still SO sad--she was so dear. She was the only one of the 3 sisters so full of life. I'm--what? Not heartbroken, but I'm sincerely sad.
Will Lady Grantham ever forgive her husband?

That Mary is a beyotch. Edith reaches out to Mary at the death and tries to bury the hatchet and Mary just says "Oh I don't think so." How cold.
Prison has been good for Mr. Bates. He lost his limp.
I see a smack down in the cards for Daisy. If Ethel taught us anything, it's that house staff are one bad attitude away from prostitution.
Thomas is crafty, but he better be careful. O'Brien would slit a person's throat while they were sleeping if she had half the chance. She went to the school of Lady MacBeth.
And Downtown will get a huge infusion of money when they file the wrongful death lawsuit.

If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

The minute they called in the second dr. you knew it was the end. I just started watching this season and it was still so sad.

Thomas's reaction really surprised me. People view him as the villain but I think there is more to him then people see. He was always touched by Sybil's kindness and I feel her loss truly is painful for him.Thomas is a very bitter man. Having to watch Anna and Bates,in his eyes, rub their love in his face must be difficult. I hope he gets a boyfriend or some kind of companion.
I guess they would not allow Bates to have a cane in prison but you would think if anything his limp would be worse. Did we ever find out what exactly it was that Anna has as evidence? I may have missed something.
I can see Cora needing to blame someone one. I know she does not honestly feel Robert is responsible.Still, at a time like this they need each other more than ever.

Oh...hold the phone. She SHOULD feel Robert is responsible. He IS responsible. As is Lord Doctor F*CKTwat.
SH*T. I'm over-invested.

The prison physical therapist DOES seem to have done wonders for Mr. Bates' limp. I also LOVE the Alexander Julian-designed prisoner's uniforms! That heather-mix tweed is SO stylish.
I actually thought Mary's response to Edith was all the more powerful for being so forthright and the embrace felt so meaningful.
I'm more perplexed by Mary's refusal to give Matthew an inch on anything. She is SO emotionally invested in Downton--he saved the estate financially and is now trying to contribute to its health and well-being in the long run and she seems determined to find a way to take offense and be hostile. What UP, Gurl?
I thought Thomas' humbling as a war profiteer would soften him--or at least provide him with some increased capacity for empathy, but it seems not to have done so. Watching him and his former partner in malice turn on each other has been fascinating. "Lie down with the devil...."
It's been said by countless other people--and the phrase "Master Class" is approaching "Perfect Storm" in my lexicon of tired and worn-out phrases--but actors everywhere could learn a lot watching the scene in which Maggie Smith's posture and gait--filmed from behind--convey so much about a strong, proud woman devastated by a single death. So effing moving.

I love this show. Unfortunately I had read about Sybil's demise in another forum, so I wasn't as moved as I would have been originally. Lord Grantham needs to be taken down a peg or two!

I am so glad to have avoided spoilers for the season.
Addison, the scene of Maggie Smith, filmed from behind, as she walked in following Sybil's death brought a fresh round of tears. I could FEEL her pain.
Also, the work of the actors in the bedroom with Sybil as she passed: Mary stepping back from the bed, Matthew turning his head - they all conveyed the emotion of this tragic loss perfectly.
I am SO emotionally invested in this show...

Indeed. That scene just absolutely killed me.
I had watched Downton when it was on in the UK last fall so I knew what was going to happen, but reading the responses on twitter from the American viewers moved me to tears all over again. American Forces Network is showing Downton on Sundays, a week behind the U.S. so we'll see this episode on Sunday. I plan to have tissues at the ready even though I know what's going to happen.

Give Maggie Smith another Emmy right now.
If you think this death was sad just wait until .......
The show is pure soap opera, some plots awesome, some plots heavy and dull (can we please end the Bates story now?), and where is Shirley MacLaine when you need her?

Do you know what happens when you let Veal Prince Orloff sit in an oven too long?

I can't decide whether it's because I'm so invested, and it pains me, or because it's tedious, but the whole Bates storyline makes me tense and itchy. I have to fight the urge to fast forward through all the Bates/Anna scenes.
I assume that Cora's mother is coming back, since they put Shirley in the main credits.

Bates still has his limp, just not the cane. Most of his scenes are from the waist up, but you can tell the actor is still walking with the limp. The one scene I remember in prison, with a full shot, he was walking down the prison stairs, holding on to the rails and he was clearly limping.

Re: Bates' wife, what's her name? No suicide, I think, but the entire plotline is so confusing with the details. I LOVE Bates, though. Didn't that tabloid newspaper guy threaten to kill her if she turned on him?

I will tell you one frigging thing... If you are a fan of this show with a pregnant wife and the nurse says, "Hmmm.. This may be pre-eclampsia!" It's enough to make your damn heart stop.
Pretty pretty please don't you ever ever feel like you're less than f**ckin' perfect!

Thank God. It's just weird that all the US folks are just seeing this episode and just now talking about it and the midwife hits us with this TODAY. It's also my freakin' birthday. Not the best way to celebrate. Luckily, we don't have the idiot "expert" doctor working on us.
