Mine is somewhere between a Phil Hartman take and Agnes Moorehead hauteur.

Mine is more Rose telling people to go to h-e-double-hockey-sticks.
Kinda like how my seduction look is Rose's when she tries to seduce that doctor guy who was dating Dorothy but hit on Blanche.

Oh such language! My ears are burning!
I thought that might be you papa...what can I say? I've never been able to resist a man in a Tony Blankley suit.
Except Tony Blankley.

Kathie Lee IS back on daytime.
I was still hoping for Cathy Mitchell. The GTExpress is made right here in the good old USofA, right?
WTF are we talking about again?

"You obviously haven't learned the power of a Beatrice Arthur-style killer glare. She didn't need words."
I wonder if Bea was ever spit upon, yelled at, followed (through the Castro, mind you)...I wonder if Bea was ever told her friends with AIDS "deserve to die"......wonder if she was ever told in a restaurant "wo don't serve faggots here"...
nope, sorry, not going to ignore it......no way.
Not going to glare at someone who does that...nope......

"wonder if she was ever told in a restaurant 'wo don't serve faggots here'."
I can't remember the comedian (I think it was George Wallace) tells a joke in which the waitress tells him they don't serve black people; he says "Well, good. Cause I don't eat them motherf***ers"
Course, that's not as valid for homos cause we kinda do...

"First they came for the Communists, and I didn’t speak up,
because I wasn’t a Communist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I didn’t speak up,
because I wasn’t a Jew.
Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn’t speak up,
because I was a Protestant. (See above)
Then they came for me, and by that time there was no one left
to speak up for me."

Posted: 5/14/08 at 2:27amTHANK YOU! Seriously, can you imagine anyone even THINKING of trying anything on Bea Arthur? Or that other great glarer, Colleen Dewhurst? Remember when some poor soul cast Miss Dewhurst in (the original) WHEN A STRANGER CALLS as a serial killer's intended VICTIM? When the poor sod playing the killer attacks Miss Dewhurst, I expected her to burst out laughing--and then tear his head off.

the recent remake of that movie was god-awful...
now, to contribute. i don't know where i stand on this issue: i voice my opinion everytime that i do hear anyone say any form of hate speech, but i don't surround myself with people like that. i'm living in waco, texas, there are plenty of hicks and bible-thumpers to go around here that'd be quick to tell you homosexuality is a sin... yadda, yadda. it's lame.

"DOODLE: (You misunderstand...) I wasn't having dinner, me and some friends were having a coffee break, and this "aquaintance" sat himself down w/us."
Fair enough, but that was not clear (the original post made it sound as if all were sitting together and this person, who has a history of making these remarks, was left to make them.)
Let me revise my question. Why would anyone stay seated if this person was around? If someone had a history of making racist remarks, I wouldnt wait around to hear them. If confronting the bigotry is not an option for them, why would someone subject themselves to it?

DOODLE:
You are completely right. I have to admit I made a huge mistake by even continuing to sit even for a moment, after this asshole started to pontificate. I tend agree mostly with Roquat about the power of silent alienation, however, at the time, my ire was raised and I DID tell him off! AND left the table.
Sorry I didn't make clearer the situation.
Thanks, all, for your insights!

Posted: 5/15/08 at 8:35amFunny but people forget that homophobia rears it's ugly little head when we least expect it or in some cases perhaps are even fully aware that we are doing it. Right, roquat? Perhaps you would like to look back at a past post where you referred to someone as a "45 year old queen"... maybe you don't think that that is the same as shouting it in a public place but really is there any difference? Or maybe you thought calling someone a "queen" was just one of those fun little tags we put on people like "pansy" or "sissy" ...but hateful words are hateful words and yours in context seem to be meant as quite negative and hurtful. Correct me if I'm mistaken.
