The business was horrible to Judy, poor lamb. Deanna Durbin quit the biz for several reasons, one of which being her witnessing its effect on her friend JG.

Why can't theses pieces stay together and go to the Smithsonian instead of be fostered out to the Douche Von Moneyschnicks of the world?

Because the Smithsonian is a government agency and has no money.
From what I've read about all the ruby slippers, there were at least three sizes, 5.5, 6 and 6.5.
