anyone got any?
i just got out of one. first off, he previously told me that i was going to get my braces off in august if i came in often and wore my rubber bands etc. i did EVERYTHING he told me too, but he told me today that i wont get them off till about mid october. and i'm really mad cuz i really wanted them off for my sweet sixteen, which is september. oy.
so next he took off my wires, and took out my spacers. then he told me he had to make some space in between my back teeth. he took this little disc, that felt like a nail file, which was on this revolving thing so that the disc would spin and he could "polish" my teeth. it hurt like hell. he would have to get really deep, while cutting my gum. this went on for about 7 minutes. blood was going everywhere! it was all over his little smock, my face, my little bib, and my brand new shirt. i thought i was going to pass out because blood makes me queasy.
i was near tears.

Eww.
When I was in 8th grade, I had to get a root canal. Long story short: I sat in the chair for five hours. My mouth was wide open the whole time. My throat was insanely dry. Anaesthesia stopped working after two. You can imagine.

I had to get my wisdom teeth removed and I woke up in the middle of the surgery. I was in such pain that I was screeching my head off. The oral surgeon said, "Calm down, calm down; I'm not doing anything!" He gave me some more meds and I fell back asleep.
My mouth was opened so wide for so long that my jaw was still sore a month later.

Let's see... I've had braces for four years, I've had two expanders and he wants me to get a third! I cried like a little baby and told him that hell would freeze over first before I get another one.
So I'm getting a second opinion... because my teeth are perfect. F*CK you orthodontists!

Three rounds of braces (2 years each) and three different jaw surgeries, one was three days before my 21st birthday

Posted: 7/21/05 at 8:47pmI used to play basketball (crazy, I know) and during practice one day, I took a shot and someone pushed me from behind and I severely sprained my ankle and I landed on my mouth and my two front teeth snapped in half. Blood was everywhere and I was rushed to the dentist to save my teeth and then rushed to the emergency room for my ankle because we thought it was broken.

When I was 12, I needed to have two adult teeth pulled since my mouth simply wasn't big enough to accomodate them all. I went to the dentist and they gave me Novocaine and everything, and then they proceeded to wait at least an hour for the extraction room to free up. Needless to say, the Novocaine was wearing off by then. The extractor even had the gall to tell me to stop crying; it didn't hurt.

I went in because of a tooth ache. He says I have to have my wisdom teeth out. I say I want meds and the big hammer thing that puts me out. He says I don't do that here.
I lay back, get injected and he pulls two wisdom teeth out. He cracks and breaks a tooth next to the one wisdom tooth he pulls out. I gag on it. The other tooth is worse. Lots of blood and gum tearing.
I pay my $330 co pay and leave. Thanksgiving is the next day. I was not happy. I never went back to him.

Ahh...which one?
I had my wisdom teeth out twice 'cause some TWAT in the office misplaced the files that said I had them out the first time. The second time the IDIOT doc opened all 4 holes, YES all 4, before realizing I had NO WISDOM TEETH IN THERE. Bastards.
And now...on my 3rd set of braces. Had them for a good year and a half to two years each time. I'm going to college with braces on. F*cking othodontist. AND I get to have jaw surgery in January where they carve out part of my jaw. Yay!
UGH! My teeth were PERFECT before my jaw decided to deteriorate (for no known reason) and leave me in my current conundrum (sp?). Hence the surgery. It sucks, as my front teeth can't touch and I have major facial muscle pain and what not.
*Sigh* enough ranting.
Popular still beats me though. *hugs Popular*

When I was on a road trip in Memphis, TN, I broke a brace, wires go right through my gums into my cheek...
I go to the ER, where a nurse looks at me, apologizes for not having ANY DDS around, and starts poking around with surgical tools. THAT was fun.
Lesson learned? Licorice and hard candy shouldn't be eaten. Period.

So I have a couple:
firstly.....
does anyone know the joy that is "impressions"?? You know, that thick, goopy stuff they make a mold of your mouth with? Yeah....so anyway...I gag pretty bad with that stuff, so one day, they decided to take 5 impressions....I puked EVERYWHERE. It was nasty. So then I had to sit there, covered in vomit, while they finished checking my braces.
second(ly)....
When I had my wisdom teeth out, the guy who did it didn't put in the stiches right, so when I woke up from surgery and I opened my mouth to talk, they pulled taught and snapped....blood everywhere....I had to go back in to get stiches....
third...
Um....when they took off my braces they sat there for an hour and a half trying to scrape out a filling b/c they thought it was glue or something that had hardened on my teeth. (it was one of those "sealing" ones that they don't drill for). So by the time I figured it out, they had half of it out. Which meant I had to go to the dentist so he could fix it...and what pissed me off was that they didn't even pay...even though THEY screwed it up.

Posted: 7/22/05 at 6:42pmWell there was a new dentist that took over for my original dentist becuase he wanted to pursue some other career or something. Anyways, this new dentist basically told me I had a really deep cavity and that I needed a root canal to take care of it! I knew this couldn't have been accurate because my teeth weren't giving me any problems. So, I went to another dentist and he told me that there was not a need for a root canal cuz there was nothing wrong with my teeth! So that loser dentist was trying to ruin my teeth and get money out of me! Thank goodness I didn't let him do the root canal!

I went to the dentist last summer for a normal check-up. He discovered that not only did I have my first cavity (Gah, I made it 19 years!) but I had to have my wisdom teeth pulled out the next week, because they were at risk of ruining my 11 years of orthodontia. Insert 2 panic attacks here, because I'm terrified of needles/surgery.
I end up developing TMJ after I got my wisdom teeth pulled- it's the pain that keeps on giving!

Posted: 7/22/05 at 7:34pmREALLY? That could be what inspired mine! I got TMJ a few years ago, well diagnosed with it, and we never quite knew what started it. Hmm.

I have the ultimate "my mouth must hate me" story.
When I was nine I fell running up a flight of stairs and knocked out one of my permanent front teeth and severely cracking the other. 8 root canals later both were saved and braces followed soon after. The endodontist wouldn't let my mom come in the room so it was traumatising.
A year of a pallet-expander and I get my braces. Apparently there wasn't enough room in my mouth so I then had to get four teeth pulled out. Two at a time. The first time I felt everything and it was positively awful. The second appointment for the other two I told my dentist that last time hurt so I got more shots of Novocain which hurts just as badly as the actual processing of pulling. I still felt it.
Then we find out that my front tooth had fused to the bone and wouldn't move so it would need to be pulled also. I insisted that I be put to sleep and ended up waking up in the middle hysterical. So I've had a gap in the middle of my mouth for a year now. My Ortho is apparently pulling all of my teeth together to close the gap; it has been a slow process. Add a bite plate "jet" thing to that and I had a mouth full of metal AND a lisp. I finally got my bite plate taken out a few months ago.
So the lisp was gone but then last week the filling or cap or whatever was put to repair the tooth that cracked fell out. Apparently it was inevitable, but I'm also at Columbia University for the summer so I won't be able to get to my dentist until August. So I have one tooth missing and the other cracked. I look just splendid. *cringe*

today i went to the dentist. a very disappointing trip: the dentist won't sort out my dodgy veneer and i need a filling.
but something funny did happen. the dental nurse was filling in my records and she asked if i was on medication.
nurse: what medication do you take?
Me: fluoxetine
nurse: what's that for?
Me: um...depression
nurse: oh you're a bit young for that aren't you?
Me: um...
nurse: ...for high blood pressue.
Me: no, not high blood pressure. DEPRESSION.
dentist (entering room): well, you're a bit young for that, too.
oh right! i didn't realise that there was some kind of age i had to reach before i'm allowed to wallow in the depths of hell!

Funny enough, had a similar horrible experience where I needed a filling as well. Got solar installed and my original installers went out of business. Now that was a horror story. The roof was leaking like crazy too.
