Anyone else watch the premiere tonight? I full on LOVED it. All the soapy frothiness one could hope for, and sure the pilot was basically a carbon copy of the DH pilot, but I didn't care.
Can't wait to watch next week, and of course it's always a pleasure to see Lucci back on TV!

I just started seeing commercials for this and am curious. I loved Ana Ortiz in Ugly Betty, so I'm happy to see her returning to the screen.
I'll have to check it out sometime this week, assuming it's either on Hulu or Lifetime's website.

Well it's hard to tell everything from a pilot episode, but I think there will be some heart there, but the pilot was A LOT of exposition crammed into 43 minutes. I would say the soapy qualities are amped up a bit in Devious Maids, but I don't think soapy and heart need be mutually exclusive.
I made the comparison to DH not just in style but structure and plot similarities. The pilot begins with a murder of a maid, and now the 5 remaining maids must figure out who really killed their friend. Each of the 5 leads have their own subplots involving the people they clean for, and then are unified by the murder mystery. It's an almost complete grafting of the PH pilot.

Just watched the first two episodes and I love it. I can't believe ABC passed on it. Maybe because it is VERY similar to DH in terms of style and writing. DH became very inconsistent over the years, hopefully the writing on Devious Maids stays on track.

Posted: 7/21/13 at 2:00pmI only watched this for La Lucci--Desperate Housewives lost me after its first season--but I found it a really fun Summer lark (much better than ABC's Mistresses remake, which makes me wonder why they passed on this.) Rosie drives me crazy, the mariachimusic drives me crazy... But I like the show. And how great is it to see Lucci do full on comedy? I wish her character weren't so islanded, and interacted more with the other "riches."
