I went, and had a lot of fun (don't hate meeeeeeee!!!)
A few years ago I attended my prom date's wedding. It was... really weird.

Mine's coming up in a few weeks.
I'm very excited to go. I dance to music everywhere and going to prom is like going to one big dancefest. I can't imagine missing it.
They better play "My Humps" damn it!

I went to my senior prom with a lovely girl named Janice. She was such a dear close friend, and I was... SO not "out" yet!
We had a terrific evening together, and it's something I will cherish for the rest of my life. A perfect evening.
But when people mention "proms" I always have a twinge of sadness, and unfortunately, horror...
...about eight years after our senior prom, I was shocked and sickened to learn that Janice had been brutally murdered by a former (deeply disturbed) boyfriend of hers. He's now in jail for life. I hadn't talked with her in years, and I was living in Los Angeles at the time. It took me a VERY long time to come to grips with what had happened. I actually sank into a deep depression for months. It was so hard for me to process. It still is.
So, I have an understandably "strange" reaction when people talk about their senior proms. To all of you who went... I hope you enjoyed yours... to those who didn't... that's equally fine too. The memories of my own prom experience are caught in this unfortunately unique world that I hope to God NONE of you will ever share with me.

I didn't go, and hardly any of my friends went.
At the time (thirty years ago), it seemed that the prom was something you only went to if you were a "serious" couple. Of my group of close friends (about ten people), only one couple went to prom, and they had been dating for several months. The idea of asking someone you had never dated, and hardly knew, to go to prom was ridiculous. It was very expensive.
There were over 1500 students in our junior and senior classes combined. I'd say about 300 went to prom.

"What about prom, Blaine?!"
I was asked, but I didn't go. I worked that night.

Posted: 5/15/06 at 1:24pmI went to my junior prom but not my senior prom. Mostly because I graduated a year early, so technically I was a junior when I graduated.

Posted: 5/15/06 at 1:30pmI went to senior prom, 80s big hair and all, but didn't go to my junior prom. I should have skipped the senior prom too. It was kind of boring. Updated On: 5/15/06 at 01:30 PM

Posted: 5/15/06 at 1:33pmI told my girlfriend I was gay a week before my senior prom. We still went together. You can imagine what a comfortable experience that was. But I got to taste ostrich for the first time.

Posted: 5/15/06 at 3:35pmCouldn't go to my Junior prom because I was semi secretly dating a white girl. (I am black). This was 1978 in a PA suburb. It wasn't ok then for bi-racial dating. I came out (to myself) in my senior year so I didn't go. I think I spent it with my music teacher, who I had a major crush on!

Posted: 5/15/06 at 3:48pmJunior prom was a couple weeks ago. I usually enjoy school events for what they are. Not overly thrilling, but good enough. I guess it was slightly atypically because I would say that 75% of the people there came without dates, and half the class left early, so that they could get ****faced in someone's basement. I just usually end up dancing until I can't function. But it died when the DJ decided to OD on the merengue and Latin dance music. Then there was of course your typical class of 2007 drama to culminate that memorable evening. Oh and I love how some people were in prom dresses and other people came in a t-shirt. There were four girls in the same dress. <3

I didn't go, and I'm so glad I didn't.
I went to ONE dance in my entire school career. Eighth grade graduation.
No regrets!

I went to prom my junior year. Eh, it was okay. I went and spent the night at a friends' house and fell asleep ten minutes later. For me, it wasn't worth the money and time, but I got to feel pretty for a night in a vintage 1970s dress.
As for senior year, birthday plans fell out and I worked on my birthday which was the same day as prom. My 18th birthday...kinda sucked.

Posted: 5/15/06 at 11:26pmoh prom, ours was last weekend. It was alright considering the circumstances. I ended up having to go by myself because I kind of got screwed over, loooong story. So I spent the night with a bunch of people and their dates. However, I ended up having a pretty OK time once we got there...I mean there WAS a chocolate fountain haha, and we got free cameras...and I had a pretty Cinderella dress...so yea it was ok haah.
