Simon said on "Ellen" that he clearly wanted David Cook to win. He is also known for having the "un-golden" touch with his comments on AI. Do you think he gave David Cook those remarks last night to do a little reverse psychology on voter's minds?

I do, because I think that David A. was so popular that Cook need any advantage he could get.

"Do you think he gave David Cook those remarks last night to do a little reverse psychology on voter's minds?"

Absolutely. And it worked like a charm. Did you see the expression on his face when Seacrest announced Cook as the winner? And I love the way they gave him the opportunity to save face, apoligize to Cook, and recant his comments from the night before, so as not to make it look like he had gotten it so wrong. The whole thing was flawlessly orchestrated from start to finish.

And why would he appologize if that wasn't his intentions? If it wasn't an act, appologizing would be stupid because it would be WAY TOO LATE!

It worked pretty brilliantly. It was obvious the judges wanted Cook to when. When his name was announced Simon looked very thrilled. Paula couldn't stop jumping around, she hugged Simon. Then Paula and Randy high-fived each other then hugged. It was like their mission was accomplished.

Well of course he did. Any time someone gets trashed undeservedly on Idol it mobilises people to vote for them (doesn't work if they were actually bad). And with the media parroting Simon's ridiculous knockout comment, they also got a surprise winner, which is great publicity for Idol, gets everyone talking.

Normally I'd be a little annoyed by the shameless manipulation and the gullible public, but as I much prefer Cook, I don't mind this time re: Did Simon influence the voters?

Then you really shouldn't watch American Idol. That's essentially the point. It's hardly a new thing that the judges make comments with the sole purposes of getting the sheep to Baah the way they want them too.

Oh absolutely, I've been watching since season two and it's been happening the whole time (I still think Simon's gushing praise of Clay's Bridge Over Troubled Water - good as Clay's performance was - and his comment that it had won him the title, was designed to mobilise people to vote against him so Ruben would win). Shameless manipulation of all kinds happens every year, on a regular basis.

Perhaps "annoyed" was a little strong, "resigned" is probably more appropriate. And, yes, I really shouldn't watch Idol, but I am hopelessly addicted to the whole spectacle, plus I love seeing all the new talent every year.

"Shameless manipulation of all kinds happens every year, on a regular basis."

And not just on American Idol.

Salon.com did a very funny, positive, write up of the finale. Here's an excerpt:

"This is all a roundabout way of saying that 2008 should have been David Archuleta's year. He has the most unforced vocal technique since -- excuse me while I dry-heave -- Josh Groban. He is sweet and milky and blackhead-free, and he is utterly inhuman, like something you'd encounter on Disney's "Small World" ride. (Paddle! Paddle!) "Archu-Dee-two," one blogger has called him, and I would have to agree, except that I can't help envisioning a time when Archuleta breaks out of the workshop and goes on a rampage through the surrounding countryside, hot-wiring cars and breaking kneecaps, with Miley Cyrus in tow. To quote the title of his favorite song: "Imagine.""

American Idol Finale Wrap Up

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

Really, the judges wanted Cook to win the entire time? Then why did they completely ignore the 4 or 5 times throughout the season that David A messed up lyrics? Anyone else messes up lyrics and they completely call them out but never him. And why did Paula and Randy NEVER say a bad thing about David A? They would criticize other people for looking uncomfortable on stage or doing the same thing every time, but not him. I guess America saw him for the child in way over his head that he is and realized that David Cook is the true star.

That Salon article is priceless. I can't wait to read the TWOP recap and Dave White's recap on Advocate.com come Monday!

"I'm so looking forward to a time when all the Reagan Democrats are dead."
