Thank God for Whoopi, the only woman with empathy and logic on this issue.
"I'm an American, Damnit!!! And if it's three things I don't believe in, it's quitting and math."

Whoopi made some good points , I also think that Joy is very pro gay marriage.

Barbara Walters should be pro-gay marriage. After all, she was engaged to one!

What did Elisabeth say? I'll never forget when she used to shriek about it being bad for "the children" and equating it with a person being able to marry their toaster or dog.

If Elisabeth would ever like to marry her toaster, I volunteer my bathtub as a venue.

Sometimes, I wish the ladies wouldn't discuss a topic unless they have more of the facts at hand.
No mention of the Opt Out Law when sex ed was brought up. I was schooled in both California and Texas--both states allowed parents to remove their kid from these discussions.
No mention of the Cali Supreme Court ruling's comments on the issue of religion:
“Finally, affording same-sex couples the opportunity to obtain the designation of marriage will not impinge upon the religious freedom of any religious organization, official, or any other person; no religion will be required to change its religious policies or practices with regard to same-sex couples, and no religious officiant will be required to solemnize a marriage in contravention of his or her religious beliefs.”
And, finally, I'm sick of people thinking that it would be ok to supposedly give us all the same rights as long as it's a different word.
Separate is NOT equal. And Whoopi should have made that clear.
At the very least, she did speak on our behalf and probably made some great points for those who are on the fence. And she did make an allusion to interracial marriage, which I firmly believe is a comparable legal example/precedent for this issue.
Sherri, of course, exemplified the views of the common person who likes to think they have gay friends but doesn't want their gay friends to have equal rights because her fair weather Christianity is more important.
I take back the tears I had for her on Wednesday.

Can I ask you all a question real quick? Elisabeth has a different opinion than you, so you think it would be a good idea to joke about killing her? So if i had a different opinion about gay marriage than you, would it be okay for me to joke about killing you? Would it be ok for me to say something along the lines of "Hey Calvin! If you want to borrow my gun and blow your brains out I would gladly give it to you!!!:)". I dont understanD.
I was all for No to prop 8. But fighting hate with hate?! Really guys, is that how we accomplish things?

Ummm...they already joke about killing us. And in much harsher terms than a throwaway gag in response to an absurd statement. Look at the comments below this here:

Are you unable to see the difference between obvious satire and obvious threats?
Do you cringe in horror at the beginning of "Sunset Boulevard" when Joe threatens to bury Betty alive?

Calvin my point is most people CANT! WHY MAKE THINGS WORSE CALVIN?! Why not be the bigger man? People who say "thats so gay" are using a phrase that they know to mean something is stupid, but that doesn't make it right. Why show people that we cant be open to ther peoples opinions when that is exactly why the glbt community is in this situation! Because some people cant consider others as human beings. EVEN JOKING ABOUT KILLING SOMEONE BECAUSE THEY HAVE DIFFERENT OPINIONS IS WRONG!!!!!!! If i joked about killing a gay because i dont believe gays are 'right' then i would be murdered by millions, but you joke about assisting the death of someone who believes something different than you and people agree. DOUBLE STANDARD. Maybe you and those who agree with you aren't in reality that much different than those who you HATE.

Very well. I propose we begin this new era by rewriting some stale jokes.
Q: What do you call 1,000 lawyers at the bottom of the ocean?
A:A good start A horrible, senseless tragedy

I don't WANT to live in what they call "a certain way." In the first place I'd be no good at it and besides that I don't want to be identified with any one class of people. I want to live every whichway, among all kinds---and know them---and understand them---and love them---THAT's what I want! - Philip Barry (Holiday)
