Posted: 2/15/06 at 11:16amMy turn to suck up-I cringed at the interviewers, not the interviewee. Her dress was adorable and age appropriate. thank goodness she wasn't wearing an evening gown. Her teeth-although I've never seen such an arrangement-she'll probably get braces at the right time. Whew, that was difficutl.

I saw a pageant kid on my way to see Hairspray in the Luxor. Scary looking kid, all dolled up in the tackiest dress/make up I've seen on anyone.
I kinda hate the parents more than the kids though.

Dakota just seemed like a great kid in the interview. She was so patient with them, which is refreshing given the attitude kids have recently started displaying. She looked like she was a having a ball. I probably would have behaved in much the same way, even as an adult. It was cute and perplexing and fun. And her demeanor was attentive, whimsical and charming. Though the one Japanese kid interviewing her was absolutely baffling (what was with the arms?), his friends totally made up for it in their good-natured ribbing of him. At least it appeared good-natured. I don't speak Japanese, so I have no idea.
Why does anyone care about her teeth and clothes? She's a kid. Let her be a kid. Good grief!

I like that she is dressed like a kid going to elementary school.
I was a pageant kid.

Posted: 2/15/06 at 2:46pmWhoa - this thread had a delayed reaction! Just to clarify, I did not mean to start it as a slam on Dakota Fanning. In fact, her degree of maturity and poise under such ridiculous circumstances blew me away. I guess "creepy" was a poor choice of word to describe her demeanor. What I meant was that her behavior was so perfect, especially given her age, that it was almost unsettling.
