Im sorry to start another thread about her, but this is such a circus, such an act, she wears sunglasses all the time during the day, she must have "forgotten" them.
re: Do You Feel Sorry?#2
Posted: 6/8/07 at 10:01pmI feel sad about the whole media circus. Watching the news today was so comical. The helicopters overhead following the cars going into the jail, the reporters salivating- all of it. Then the news said, by the way, there's a computer glitch and the airport schedules are all going crazy- but that's not as important as catching a very distraught Paris? It's not that I'm a Paris fan but the media has certainly built her up and is loving tearing her down. It doesn't seem like she's a mean person- she's just misguided. If I was her mom, I would have counseled her harder on the things she did wrong and guided her better on the consequences. I also would have advised her to do better things with her money instead of flaunting it. She could have been a better role model if she did more for orgs like UNICEF or the Red Cross. I could go on but my fingers would hurt. It's just a sad situation and we have troops fighting for our freedom! (I'm not a fan of this war either but the troops didn't get a choice)

DD-I'm not sure I would consider this a misfortune. It's not like she's been struck with a fatal disease, or the death of someone close to her.
She committed a crime (maybe more than one). She exudes the attitude that the rules are for someone else, not her.
I'm glad she's being made to take the punishment for the crime, as we would have to do.
re: Do You Feel Sorry?#6
Posted: 6/8/07 at 10:13pmI don't feel sorry for her in the slightest. Her attitude would have sent her to the guillotine 200 years ago.

I'm not exactly rejoicing, but I'm glad to see that she's going to have to serve out her sentence. Frankly, I think it's sad that she got released because she acted like a child. This isn't sleepaway camp; you don't get to go home early because you're homesick.

I'm fascinated by the social experiment being carried out on this board. All the "what has she done to be famous?" "She's done nothing, why is she famous?" etc.
She's famous for the same reason anyone who's famous is famous - people pay a lot of attention. The same people wondering how she got to be famous are only perpetuating the fame - how many threads have been started in the past couple of days about this woman? How many posts?
Is this so hard to understand?

Truth be told, I do feel a little sorry.
I don't like her, but I don't like to anyone distraught. I'm a total pushover like that.
Don't get me wrong, I wanted her to go to jail, but I wish she would take her punishment like an adult.

Posted: 6/8/07 at 10:26pmAbba-she doesn't want privacy. She's lived and breathed attention - you can't all of a sudden decide you don't want it.

I never questioned for a minute why she's famous.
I'm just glad that for once, one of the "privileged" isn't being given a pass.
Actually, that remains to be seen. I'll bet she gets out after a few more days.
re: Do You Feel Sorry?#16
Posted: 6/8/07 at 10:35pmIt's unfortunate... like rath said, we made her famous. Yes, she committed a crime, and that is unfortunate. And yes, she has to pay for it. I'm cool with that. It's just the response I have seen from people happy about it, joyous at this situation. THAT makes me sad.

For what seems the last time, she is not being treated like everyone else, she is being held to a higher standard, and being made an example of by the Judge. Under LA County standards, if you are convicted of a non-violent crime, you are usually released after serving 10% of your sentence, do to over crowding.
I was all for her being convicted, but now she is stuck between a power play between the Sheriff and the Judge, and what I thought was impossible is now possible: I am starting to feel sorry for Paris Hilton.
re: Do You Feel Sorry?#18
Posted: 6/8/07 at 10:45pmIn a few words, hell no. For once she is seeing how her being rich and famous doesn't give her a pass out of the hard stuff. She committed a crime and should serve her sentence. I am glad she got sent back. Updated On: 6/8/07 at 10:45 PM

DD-I can't answer for anyone else, but I am not joyous in the way of a celebration.
My reaction to this has nothing to do with the person who is Paris Hilton. Almost every single time a "celeb" breaks a law, they are given a pass. "They" don't seem to have to pay for their crimes. I am happy that for once a celeb will have to pay. It gives me a little tiny bit of faith in the justice system.

From my limited Paris-exposure, it seems like her whole persona is all about expecting NOT to be treated like everyone else. She exudes the aura of being privileged, special, and above the law.
Guess once in awhile, it's bound not to work in her favor. C'est la vie.

Posted: 6/8/07 at 11:15pmi've been giggling gleefully through the whole thing. someone who's cultivated celebrity, who feels that their money entitles them to special treatment having to at least for a little bit see what life is like in the real world outside the protective bubble of money and family ties? i think it's great!

YouWantItWhen?:
“For what seems the last time, she is not being treated like everyone else, she is being held to a higher standard,”
Yes, YWIW, she is. She did this to herself by being a media whore. She believes that she IS a higher standard, so why not teach the kids of today that if you do the crime, you do the time? She needs to set some sort of example by taking responsibility for her actions.
We, as Americans, have watched far too many times, the rich and famous getting off, just because of who they are. And living here in LA, I see the snobby, self absorbed people on a daily basis. They break laws, by parking where ever they feel like it. Speeding through major intersections, etc.. This judge is just fed up, for the same reason a lot of hard working folks in the Southern California area: We are sick of celebrities thinking the rules don’t apply to them.
So, because she made herself into a paparazzi magnet, she now needs to realize that celebrity is a double edged sword. And now she’s finding out how it cuts both ways.

Diva,
She did not appeal, and she went into the system (admittedly after having done some pretty stupid things at the hearing).
And, who puts her on the pedestal? Not me. I think she is a silly, immature child, and was OK that she was sent to prison. But at this point, she is becoming a political football between the courts and the Sheriff.
Again, I would much rather she clean some toilets or do some other humiliating task for many hours, than waste my tax dollars and resources in prison serving time far in excess of those in similar circumstances.
And query - if she is the whore, are not we her customers? The media feeds on her activities, and she sells papers. How much of this is on us for creating this monster? How much of this is on the paparazzi who follow her every move and make it almost impossible for her not to make a scene where ever she goes?
I am all for getting a pound of flesh, but it has already been extracted, and now this whole circus makes me more angry than anything.
The judge here seems to want to make sure that he makes an example of Paris - and in the process, is making her sympathetic as she becomes somewhat pathetic.
And, I too live in LA, being born an raised here, so I see plenty of self-absorbed, snobby people who think they are entitled to what they have - it is not just limited to celebrities - many lawyers, doctors, and other business men and women suffer from the same attitude.
I just feel that Paris is an easy target - and this is tantamount to shooting fish in a barrel.

I was having this duscussion with someone the other day. A good point to remember is that we (in the collective sense) do indeed buy the papers and watch the shows that perpetuate her fame. If no one cared, she'd be just another rich society girl (who I understand snub their noses at the crass self promotion of Paris).
America loves to build up/tear down/then root for the underdog to make a comeback. It's a classic trajectory of so many celebs here.
She'll be the butt of many jokes and much gloating for now, but I bet in the long run she'll gain some goodwill once people have had enough of watching the media exploit her "downfall", however well deserved it may be.
