I'm seriously starting to think that he's started drinking again. Read the link about how he teased a reporter for wearing sunglasses at a Rose Garden press conference. The reporter wearing glasses is legally blind.

Yes it really happened.

And, while I detest many things about Bush, I don't think he intended to be as insensitive as he sounded. You would think that his staff might just let him know that the guy with the sunglasses was in fact legally blind and that was why he was wearing them.

But then again, Bush is so busy trying to make up frat-boy names for those surrounding him, perhaps any such info would not sink in regardless.

I actually would not be surprised if an apology of some sort did not come the reporters way. Maybe this is actually one thing Bush can admit he made a mistake on (and not three years after the fact).

Well he was being a cocky pr*** to the guy--sounding offended that the man was wearing sunglasses. And that's what makes the truth so harsh.

I loathe the man, too, but honestly, I don't think *this* is the thing to crucify the guy for. His back is against the wall and he's trying to keep a friendly, joking relationship with the press corps, and it backfired and dug him in deeper. Now, mind you, most his joking has always irritated the bejesus out of me and this instance is no different, but I don't think it was as insensitive and awful as it's being portrayed. A little stupid maybe...sort of like asking someone who is a little heavy when the baby is due...but not intentionally vicious.

I can't *believe* I just defended the man.

Papa,
personally, I do think this is just an example of Bush's bad interpersonal skills. His admirers say he's very genial, amiable and gets along well with others. I find examples of this sort to be indicative of his inability to really relate with people without creating, as mentioned earlier, these little "Frat boy" monikers and personal digs.
However, I really couldn't care less about this. The reporter was insulted, the President was made aware of his condition, he called and apologized, the reporter accepted, case closed.
However, don't even try and act as if Republicans do not seize upon every single thing a Democrat does and beat it to death in the hopes of pulling a little political clout out of it. If we really have to start comparing notes, we can, but I find it absolutely hysterical that, when Bush does it, we're supposed to just accept it, but when a Democrat does it, it's bad, bad, bad, and you're just being an apologist if you try to make an excuse for them.

Don't drag it out, Papa, but, really, a stain on a blue dress that was, however you want to look at the inappropriateness of it, a personal choice between two people that led to a witch hunt that hasn't been equaled with this Administration HOWEVER you want to parse it.
