I think she popped up in Dallas as well, although I can't remember where she fitted in.
Lois Chiles that is, not Joan Hickson.

DEATH ON THE NILE was not the financial hit that ORIENT was. Although Angela won a Best Support Actress award from I think the National Board of Review and may have also rec a nom from the Golden Globes. The film won an Oscar for Costume Design.
Re MIRROR, Elizabeth was the second choice; Natalie Wood was the first choice and would have been superb as Marina.
APPOINTMENT WITH DEATH is out of print; the last Poirot feature film with Ustinov. Supported by Bacall, Carrie Fisher, and others.
There is another bad remake of AND THEN THERE WERE NONE starring . . . Frank Stallone!
Joan Hickson is also in two other Agatha films: MURDER SHE SAID and LOVE WITH A STRANGER from 1937.

And according to legend, Dame Agatha told Hickson that someday she'd like her to play Miss Marple.

Okay, all this talk made me put on "Death On the Nile" again.
Watching it now ...
And I just remembered something that has very little to do with the movie itself, just my own initial experience watching it.
This was the first time I saw a movie solo in my life, and the first time I ever drove a car anywhere other than school. I was fifteen at the time. It was a rainy Sunday afternoon and a spontaneous decision. I remember loving the cast and the experience, and thoroughly feeling empowered by my little automotive jaunt to the cinema.
Oh, and I'm five minutes into the movie now and already wishing Lois Chiles would die.
Some things never change. Ah, fond memories ...
And Maggie Smith already has the best line of the movie:
"There's two things in the world I can't abide. It's heat and heathens."
(And yeah, I know, I threadjacked from Evil Under the Sun ... whatever.)
EDIT: And Lois just said, "That bitch! Everywhere we go, she pops up like some kangaroo in heat!"
Even her scripted lines suck. LOL

Lansbury: Am I addressing Hercules Porridge, the famous French Sleuth?
Ustinov: No, madam, you are addressing Hercule Poirot, the famous Belgian sleuth.
and later:
Lansbury: They have banned Salome Otterborne for speaking the truth about men and women!
Madame Van Skylar: Temper temper Bowers. What you need is a nice cool holiday. I was thinking of a trip through the Gobi Desert!
Mrs. Ottobourne: Labin! This crocodile has lost it's croc!
This movie is wonderful! Evil Under the Sun is great fun too, with some great zingers between Diana Rigg and Maggie Smith. I need to watch both again soon!
Mia Farrow is also quite wonderful in "Death on the Nile."
She really is. She brings an odd dignity to the character.
I love that Angela dresses like Nora Desmond in this!
... and I don't mean Norma, I mean Nora---the Carol Burnett Show caricature in the Bob Mackie threads.

I love both Evil Under the Sun and Death on the Nile. Watched Death just last night. Great plot, wonderful music, marvelously funny Lansbury, attractive McCorkindale. Bette Davis and Maggie Smith are heaven to watch. Throw in Ustinov, David Niven and Mia Farrow. What a cast. I watch it at least twice a year. And Evil Under the Sun is such fun. The GREAT Cole Porter score. The wonderful Diana Rigg ("the bitch, Daphne"), and the hilarious Maggie Smith ("it's quite obviously cherche la fruit"). Plus Roddy McDowell and James Mason. A much lighter movie than Death on the Nile but still involving an almost unsolvable murder. Also like The Mirror Crack'd. What a cast of "movie stars." Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson, Tony Curtis and Kim Novak. For mystery lovers everywhere, check out these three movies.
Best part of the movie:
How weird. I just watched this the other night. It was okay but I really liked the soundtrack. IMO, the BEST Agatha Christie story that has been made into a film is without a doubt, WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION. It is one of my all time favorite films.Excellent cast and I believe it was Tyrone Powers last film. You can watch the entire film here.

Speaking of Maggie Smith, I bought a movie from Warner Archives a few months ago with Maggie and Peter Ustinov called HOT MILLIONS. A fun movie I highly recommend. You can see the trailer here:

Another great Maggie Smith film is the HONEY POT
I love Death on the Nile too. I'm glad to see Mia Farrow getting some appreciation here - I think she's always marvellous in everything. She writes some interesting stuff about the making of this movie in her autobiography What Falls Away.
I watched another Poirot recently, can't remember the title, but it starred Faye Dunaway...it put me off seeking out any more!

Mia Farrow's name is on my long list of "the most under-rated actresses in Hollywood."
According to IMDB, no one was allowed their own dressing room while filming Death on the Nile, so Bette Davis had to share one with Maggie Smith and Angela Lansbury. Oh to have been a fly on the wall!
Talk about "waiting around for the girls upstairs."
